A guy i knew many years ago played on the same bill as Aziz Ibrahim, he of Stone Roses/Ian Brown guitarist fame at a gig in Scotland. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aziz_IbrahimThis fella i knew is a singer/songwriter and was playing a gig one night in town Anyway after the show he told me and i have no reason to doubt this to be honest as he aint a bullshitter and i dont know why anyone would make it up to be honet but i digress... Aziz told him in scotland at the show that he played Noel a song of his own one night and Noel fell in love with it instantly. So much so that the next day he called up Aziz and offered him 50,000 cash money to take his song and be allowed to claim it as HIS own. Not to cover it but to take it and say he wrote it himself. Aziz turned down the offer from a pure artistic moral stand point. I would fucking love to know what song it was Anyway you reckon Noel has ever done this before with anyone else? I was slightly dissapointed when i heard i must admit but couldnt give a fuck now to be honest, hasnt clouded my judgement of the man at all as ive only just remembered it there this morning and thought id share.....

i dunno........but i will say, your avatar reminds me - Keith Richards notoriously 'borrowed' other people's music, like just plain took it...no money exchange.

Reasons i dont believe this:
If he told you, he told other people, and it would have been out in the open.
If the song was as good as this story suggest, it probably would have been out and this low level singer/songwriter wouldnt have been low level.
It's funny how you forget a story that questions if noel really is a great songwriter for years and then it pops up in your head now.

Imagine Liam in a black coat, middle of a rainy night, standing in some dark alley buying "Little James" for ten quid.

He paid The Real People for some of the lyrics in "Don't Go Away" Didn't they sue him for that though? he "borrowed" a lot of arrangements and lyrics from the real people. cant find the article atm. unfortunately I cant remember remember the exact songs though, but definitely some of oasis early stuff on definitely maybe and a few b sides of the time. I think digsys diner was one of them. but I doubt noel would offer someone money to buy one of his songs and claim it as his own work. he nicked a lot of material in the past and giving the credits never seemed to be a problem. so I think this guy is telling bullshit.

there was a suggestion by Bigun that Noel had done this for The Importance Of Being Idle.
Whether its true i have no idea, but saying that there has to be occasions when artists buy songs to stay at the top.

Whether its true i have no idea, but saying that there has to be occasions when artists buy songs to stay at the top. If there was ever a possibility, it cant be TIOBI. It's a typical Noel song. the melody hooks are very gallagherish. A lot of people tried to copy that "lazy slow rock" kinda melody that noel uses on a lot of songs, but noone as far as i know succedeed.
