I wish RM ended up being the 10 minute epic song it was supposed to be, but I always liked the demo so I'm sure the finished result will be great. Especially if it's as well produced as everything we've heard so far.

I really, really hope for some release of alternative versions in the future. I would pay for hearing that version.

i noticed it there on the day of the post so i probably wouldnt read too much into it. they don't even have clips for Kasabians new album which is due out in 2 weeks so unlikely NG's will appear anytime soon, on this site anyway.

There are a few albums on which the first track is the longest - Morrissey's 'Southpaw Grammar' and Springsteen's 'Working on a Dream' come to mind.
I'm quite surprised by the length of Record Machine, as I'd expected it to be a sort of Champagne Supernova part 2. In fact, I always assumed it would be the final track on the album it appeared on. I'm sure it'll still be a good song, though...

Ironic at the very probable possibility that RM will be alot like the demo - that people are gonna slam it for "being too much like the demo" after the hoo ha over IIHAG not being enough like the soundcheck.

Yeah, I think blur's "Tender" pushes damn near 8 minutes on "13" to lead off the LP, but then there's another that's a few seconds longer.
Anyway, I'm still most excited for Record Machine and EOTR....always loved that soundcheck version and I'm certain that one will sound gigantic on the LP.

EOTR could be a "Tender" like track...if it is, that will be awesome.

Its too bad about RM. I also remember hearing that at one point of the 10 minutes, Liam did backup vocals (or maybe Noel, depending on who did lead) like a Dyer Wanna Be A Spaceman type of thing. It was probably fake though.

It was probably fake though. Noel said that was intended to be a 10min epic with several guitar solos. It's a damn shame we will never get that version, with or without Liam's vocals. I'm glad it's getting an official release, but I'd be a bit disappointed if it's exactly the same as the demo. The demo is great, but it has even more potential, and for Noel not to realize that potential in the years he had to craft it further would be a letdown.

according to the guy who attended the listening party, it doesn't sound much different at all. (but that opinion was based on only one listen) I guess when Noel made these comments in 2002-2003 he was just talking out of his ass a little since the 2004 demo doesn't fit that description of "Led Zeppelin doing The Beatles" or being a 10 minute Supernova style guitar epic. Maybe, but its also possible that there are a number of different versions of the song kicking about, just like with STC. The one we heard is quite different from what the song may have started as.

The idea and vibe of the song will have changed from the dig out your soul sessions because the lead singer has changed. The ten minute version might not have suited Noels vocal and if that is the case it will have to be changed to suit his delivery.

and it just occurs to me now, but when was the last time you ever heard that the longest track on an album by any artist also opened the album? seems a bit unique to say the least... Second Coming (Breaking Into Heaven is 11 min) And Embrace - If You've Never Been (starts with Over, 7:02) Springsteen's Human Touch starts with the title track which is the longest on the album (over 6 min) DYKWIM is another long opening track (although not the longest). Edit: Noticed I was late with Second Coming.

Don't forget to add 'Check The Meaning' (8 min) off Richard Ashcroft's album Human Conditions and 'Achilles Last Stand' (11 min) on Led Zeppelin's Presence.
