is OASIS a classic band as the best bands of the music history or just a well known band?

Seriously, now. You are asking people who spend their valuable time trading rumors about Oasis and posting up every bootleg and picture of the band in existance for download. Most of the world doesn't want a one and a half minute video of Liam Gallagher on TRL. We do. What do you think we are going to say? We're mad for it!

yeah i know that you people are mad for it. it isn't unusual, but, seriously, i think that if oasis had separate then be here now, the rest of the world probably consider oasis as a classic.

we'll know the answer to this if their music is being played in 10-15 years time. just like the beatles and stones.

Good point...I know that atleast in Canada Oasis is hardly ever played, atleast in Vancouver. But maybe if u consider them being played in britain/europe they prolly are a classic band...who knows

But maybe if u consider them being played in britain/europe they prolly are a classic band...who knows i think they hurt themselves in regards with little radioplay in us and canada,,,there cancelled tours and ruining the mtv unplugged gig as well as slaggin off radio interviewrs in the us has lead to there lack of airplay here so i dont consider there lack of radio play to be a factor in the us ,,i never hear THE JAM here in nyc and they are classic,, just my opinion

thanx man,,i think it sux that they basically shot themselves in the foot here because they were on there way to being huge. people seem to forget that MORNIN GLORY sold over 4 million in america AND COLDPLAY who everyone says cracked america has not sold that number with there 2 combined lps.NYR AND MYSELF have tried petitioning local nyc stations and there response is that OASIS are to HIP 4 there audience . its a bunch of shite they dont play them because the boys didnt play "the game" and over here if u dont play the game u cannot be considered "classic "because the radio wont play you IF the nyc audience or any other audience heard the classic OASIS TUNES on the radio they would be held in the classic relm,,, but its a catch 22 if a band isnt heard on mass radio how can it becomer classic and how can people that never heard of OASIS make a judgement if they never heard them POLITICS SUCK

i think in the uk oasis have passed all bands bar one , the beatles, and their on power with the stones, oasis have wrote some of the best music and people will see that, whoever said that there the same as smokie and the bay city rollers is a twat , and noes nothing about music , wonderwall has been in the top 100 looked at tabs for nearly 10 years, there arnt too many that are always their tears in heaven and stairway to heaven are the only others i can think off of hand , wtsmg has sold 24 million in the uk and ireland (source noel) smokie were a one hit wonder and the bay city rollers were a gimick band and didnt last, i suggest u leave , and dont come back, cus if u dont apprescaite oasis , and put them in the same catogory as smokie i dont get y ur on this fourm

Blowing out the grunge in 94 wasn't easy with all the pretenders to the soft/loud throne thick as thieves. Nirvana had been awesome but, really how much of "I think I'm dumb" can one stand knocked into one's head. I'm sure Cobain would have had more substantial things eventually up his sleeve.
Oasis was on the historical map as soon as Live Forever came out. We were bumming about Cobain's death and the lost potential when the big middle finger of Liam's voice came out and went in a new direction. Cobain lifted Boston riffs and came up with a relevant new classic and Oasis lifted multiple influences and simple heart wrenching chords with songs at the time seemed all about rock n roll dreams but, are defiant and yet heartbreaking on a look back.
"You and I are gonna live forever" was a statement for rock fans starting their adult lives back then but, one grows up don't they and they realize you don't live forever. But, the song is no worse for that realization, in fact it seems it hinted at that fact all along.
If Noel never wrote another song he was in the rock n roll history books as much more than a footnote. But, of course many great songs came after and actually grew up side by side with many of us. Out of the 90s maybe Pearl Jam is the only contemporary that has survived. That is why Oasis is fookin' classic, as they say.

There's likely to be a lot of people, in America in particular, in 10 or 20 years time looking through their old CD collection, their big brother's CD collection, or their dad's CD collection or listening to the classic rock station on satellite radio or whatever the crap that's gonna be around at the time, hear unhearalded Oasis songs, and seeing them as undeniable classics. They'll be a hand me down band in other words.
