Thanks Jeff!!!! One question, can you confirm there's not a guitar solo in Record Machine?? There is a solo. It may have been the first one I noticed though! Almost identical to the one on the version we all have, btw. But punchier (could be the mix). Starts strong and peters out at the end. THANK GOD!

This is why I love this forum.
One question Jeff, and it's a pretty generic one, but - where does it rate in terms of Oasis albums? Obviously, the first two Oasis albums aren't going to be beaten, but judging on your listening, where does it rank?

I have a question for Jeff, which should hopefully put his ratings in better perspective.
What are your favorite and least favorite Oasis tunes/albums etc?
I want to get an idea of his taste before I get excited about his opinions.

Wow! Okay, guys. I don't know where to even begin. Writing about music is like talking about fucking, as John Lennon once said. So I don't think I can be specific on a track-by-track basis (is that what you guys are asking?). But here goes... The sound is huge. The production is really clean and Noel's voice sounds better than it ever has. Truly. That is what jumped out. Hats off to Dave Sardy on that. He got great performances out of Noel but also sat them in the mix perfectly. Noel's delivery is confident and also doesn't rely on the IOBI falsetto-to-a-belt that he's been using a lot lately. The instrumentation is clever but not too offbeat either. Let's just say adventurous. The songs sound new but familiar and classic at the same time. There are hints of Oasis, of course, but not too much. I really felt like this sounded like a new chapter. But what especially struck me was the songs. Put it this way... I've tried and tried and TRIED to get into Beady Eye and I LIKE a few of the songs and Liam sounds great, but after losing interest in the album pretty quickly I expected them to win me over live. They didn't. And there's no great guitar playing on what is basically a guitar album. Andy Bell? Please. He's so twee and tentative on guitar. And having seen Gem with Oasis, Weller and Noel and now BDI I've come to realize he's a great SECOND guitarist. Well, there's none of that here. We take it for granted, but as Pete Townshend once told me "Noel's a fucking great guitar player." This stuff is confident. But even more than that it came back to the songs. The weakest songs were better than anything BDI has done to date. I wasn't surprised by that, but I was surprised by the fact that the delivery was SO STRONG (without being over the top or seemingly trying too hard). I dunno. Does that help? I kinda went out on a limb, and I don't mean to offend any BDI fans here. But Noel's stuff really put it them shame. But even setting aside the comparisons -- and having only heard the stuff once (can you believe they only played it for us once!?!) -- this is a great album. You will be pulling this one out for years. Well, I will. Okay, begin the darts! nice work. aloha!

Noel is doing an interview with AOL Music too... Did they say when it would come out? I hope he does one of those AOL Sessions! Those are amazing to watch! I don't think Oasis ever did any. http://instagram.com/p/LPkME

What Jeff said also correlates to LIB's date for IIHAG (ie, circa next week)!
I seriously need a finished version of RM. Jeff: Do you remember if the lyrics were changed/re-worked?
Yeah, it would be nice to see where those early listeners would place this among Oasis records. From what I'm gathering, it sounds like it would stand alongside DM/WTSMG. (I don't think any album will beat DM for me though. That album is truly a masterpiece).
But things are picking up again, and getting exciting once more. Should be pretty much full on from now until October with new tidbits of information every week or so.
I think Noely may have produced a very special album. It has that feeling. I have that faith.

wow man, thats awesome thank you so much!!! Shit cant wait till the leak!!!
Just one question:
You keep saying If I Had A Gun is a bit of a rocker. How could that be? From the soundcheck it sound like a really slow ballad a la Dont Go Away/Wonderwall...

Well take Supersonic, if you had never heard the song before, and had only heard the TCT Soundcheck of it, you would think that Supersonic was some type of slow Wonderwall song.

Wow. Again. Okay, I'm going to try to summarize everything you guys are clamoring for... I first saw Oasis at the Wetlands here in NYC in '94. I would say DM and then WTSMG are my favs, without question. But I love their more mature sound, and think DBBT is a very solid album and one I go back to often. I prefer the Zak-era band (full disclosure, I've known Zak since about '96) and am not a fan of Alan White (not powerful enough; too busy/jazzy) or Chris Shamrock (Tony Mac on steroids; doesn't swing), though obviously they are top drummers. I have seen Oasis both here and in the UK over 20 times I would guess. And I always keep everything they did (albums, singles, B-sides, odds and ends) on my iPhone at all times. I'm a songwriter and musician professionally so I'm team-Noel as his songwriting and vision really drove the band IMHO. Love Liam, but his voice and personality only go so far for me. I was a Ride fan way back (saw them in Oxford AGES ago) and have gotten to meet Gem a few times and I have a pretty high opinion of him. But I have been thoroughly disappointed in BDI (though I still carry around the album and a bunch of live stuff from Rkid on my iPhone) and seeing them live just solidified that opinion. I obviously love all the obvious DM/WTSMG tracks, but am partial to some oddball tunes, too. Love DYKWIM and heard there was an edited version of BHN in the pipeline before all the shit hit the fan and was disappointed we will likely never get that. I rank SOTSOG at the bottom, but love Gas Panic and Sunday Morning Call. And a few on HC (Hung, Stop Crying, LOVE LBL). I even dig the muscular sound of DOYS and have a couple of Rkid fan versions on my iPhone along with the original. But my real fav is probably an album I created that I called the Complete Masterplan in my iTune that includes every non-album track I could get my hands on, and I love Shout It Out Loud and Cigarettes in Hell and Let Forever Be, and Talk Tonight with Weller, and You've Got the Heart of a Star. I have a soft spot for Whatever and Masterplan is my go-to epic. So let's just say I'm a fan. A real fan. Like you, but with my own favs. Noel and I actually talked a lot about being the same age, having been in bands for 15 years and just now embarking on solo careers (at varying levels, of course). I found him very quick and sincere, which was nice. Anyway, it's hard to give much detail beyond not being disappointed. And that's saying something. I mean, we are all pretty jacked up at the prospect of this album (1700+ views of this post alone!). Specifically, IIHAG is VERY different now tot he soundcheck song we all know. Dave Massey joked at the party that it was the first song that was bootlegged and covered BEFORE it was written. That's kind of true. You won't recognize it. (I'm pretty sure I'm not mixing it up! Lol. I did only here them once and was about to meet Noel.) But RM was very similar to the demo, if built up and more developed/produced. The lyrics seemed the same, though. Oh, and as for the pedestrianisation of Norwich City Centre... I'm for it. Except when I'm against it, that is.

Oh, and with all the noise in the room I didn't have an OMG moment about any song, though RM doesn't disappoint and one or two others did the goosebump thing.

Thank you again.
Is the chord structuring of IIHAG the same as the demo, or has he completely added different parts to it. Say a middle 8 or something like that.
Just wondering if you said that you couldn't recognize it because the instrumental and arrangement parts made it sound different, or it was the chord structuring of the song in general.

Hmm. I dunno, I'm sorry to say. That soundcheck version as such poor quality I never listened to it enough to be able to remember the fundamentals of the song. But put it this way, it starts off quiet and simple and builds into an epic of the type you know and love Noel for. Or maybe put it this way, there'll be leaks I'm sure in a few weeks and you'll be able to hear and compare for yourself. Honestly, just being there on what was for me such a special occasion and hearing the tracks and being able to chat with Noel for pretty much as long as I wanted meant far more to me than the little details that the Radar guy wrote about (some of which I agree with and some of which made me go 'Huh?' Lol). Suffice to say it sounded great. The playing and songs were great and Noel's voice sounded better than ever. THAT especially really jumped out. It was a good as I hoped/wanted it to be. And Noel was in top form and a great guy. What more could any of us want, you know?

A bit harsh and to be fair i find JB's posts more useful and positve than your's. If you lived in England you would understand that what he said is a reference to Alan Partridge and is commonly used here. I don't know why you have to seek him out and be so harsh just because you had a disagreement on a separate thread. Anyway this thread is about what Jeff Slate thinks of the album and I think we should get back on topic before you hi-jack yet another thread. Glad to hear what you think Jeff and I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully it's as good as everyone is saying so far!!!
