I became a fan of Noel Gallagher for his music but over the years I have also come to appreciate his wit, sensibilities, intellect and I can relate to his version of atheism.
So I'm wondering if there are any hardcore Jesus Freaks (j/k) here and if so, do they ever cringe at Noel's atheist lyrics-- which are many and have been collected in threads in the past.

You could also ask do atheists cringe at Noel's religious lyrics? Agreed! I don't think Noel is really sure what he is, and so he just writes whatever works for the tune. It goes both ways. He's bi-religious!

You could also ask do atheists cringe at Noel's religious lyrics? "God" can be used as a metaphor. Just like "soul" and "heart"

You could also ask do atheists cringe at Noel's religious lyrics? This. He considered himself an atheist way back but not really anymore. Noel said in an interview about Dig Out Your Soul that because he writes a lot of religious stuff he's not sure what he is. Plus, he said he had a long chat with Bono about all things religious, and Noel said 'a lot of things made sense'. If anything, he's agnostic. Songs like Carry Us All are probably just a dig at those who live and stand by everything that is said in the Bible.

Jesus, a lot of Christians seem to get a bad rap. I'm Christian. I have no problem with Noel's lyrics or any other way of thinking of life. The world needs to both learn and respect people on different views and even though I'm Christian by no means have I figured it all out or anywhere near to being a perfect soul.
God Bless.

Agreed! I don't think Noel is really sure what he is, and so he just writes whatever works for the tune. It goes both ways. He's bi-religious! yeah. Noel, and Oasis have written many song with spiritual theme and undertones. atheism, i think not. aloha! what he said. I myself am a Christian. Although I do not act like one at all times. I do believe very much and would die for my cause. I'm a work in progress like we all are I think. When it gets down to it, I'm very spiritual and the Lord is my savior. So being a Oasis fan, at first some of the lyrics offended me for a second. Then I got to thinking that they shouldn't be writing things like they do if they DON'T believe in some way. That said, I do believe that Noel believes in something. Probably not the correct way or anything. I think he beloves the Lord,. or is curious or confused about it. I do not know. Either way I think it's in the right direction. So no it doesn't bother me. Someone that can write lyrics the way he does has a gift from God. The things he writes that include heaven/God/ only strengthen that he is a believer and loves the Lord. Until he comes outright and says something terrible I'll embrace his lyrics as good things. P.S. There's no such thing as "Jesus Freaks". That's just a ignorant way of saying I feel uncomfortable in stating I believe or don't believe. Christ is our savior whether we believe it or not. He will come for us whether we're ready or not. SO believe.

You could also ask do atheists cringe at Noel's religious lyrics? I quite enjoy the religious imagery just like I enjoy Harry Potter, even though it makes less sense sometimes.

It's not right to bring religion issues to such an universal art that is music. Leave it be.
"You'll never burn my heart out" How many of you believe that we feel through our hearts? Exactly
God can be used to represent something.

You could also ask do atheists cringe at Noel's religious lyrics? Thats actually a good question. I'm an atheist by definition, although I have no interest whatsoever in religion so I wouldn't openly refer to myself as anything. I do cringe at some of Noel's religious lyrics though, its as if he tries too hard because he doesn't quite understand it.

Noel's lyrics, when representing the "soul, spirit" and such are much more spiritual. They have nothing to do with religion/Christianity. Don't confuse the two.

At the end of the day, it's just music... Don't take it personal.

The OP's question is a good one. I'm a devout Christian and some of Noel's personal opinions do rub me the wrong way. But, I admire him for his skills as a musician and not necessarily for any other reason. His music remains "neutral" a vast majority of the time (or even "religious" at times, as others have pointed out). I feel that God is glorified in beautiful art, and he is certainly an artist.
PS: I'm not sure what this "Jesus Freaks" song is about, hopefully it is just a silly song title and not anything antagonistic to his Christian fans.

"Noel, and Oasis have written many song with spiritual theme and undertones.
atheism, i think not."
Noel certainly would appear to be anti-organized religion, and possibly a non-believer in the imaginary man in the sky. Both of these beliefs in no way preclude being spiritual. Because organized religion have hijacked spirituality doesn't mean they own it.
I do agree that Noel does seem to be all over the place on this topic. I think any usage of religious terms like "get on your knees and pray" are more relics from his upbringing / common phrases / lyrics to connect with the masses (no pun intended) and less an indication that he is on the fence about religion.
A strong Atheist-- perhaps not, but Agnostic for sure. Agnostic for sure... is that a paradox?

God Bless. Do you not see what's insulting about this last sentence? The religious mind is paternalistic and warped.
