I still don't understand why people have to hate band members due to the split. Why turn on band members who we have idolized as a whole?
I don't particularly care for Andy, but I don't hate him. He filled his role in Oasis nicely, if unspectacular.....

you're missing the point. no one holds the band splitting up against him, i don't even care what he did or didn't do the night of the breakup. the problem is, he comes out in an interview and actually talks shit about noel. he should be thanking his lucky stars that he got a chance to earn some royalties off of noel for the rest of his life, not slagging him off. in the interview he sounds so smug and cocky like he thought that he was actually an important part of the band, which he clearly wasn't.

He kept his mouth shut and stayed out of it up until Noel put him in the spotlight, how does that make him an ungrateful bitch?

the problem is, he comes out in an interview and actually talks shit about noel. so, it's o.k. for noel to talk shit about andy? and andy is supposed to stay silent and not say a word? says who? it works both ways, you know.

you guys are bunch of comedians. liam IS oasis. andy doesnt owe noel anything. noel can play his acoustic takes on the songs for the rest of his life and make albums with clones of TIOBI, but he will never be so good without Liam. end of fookin stooory.

Why do people think that Noel saying Andy was counting his shoes was such a vile insult?
People are reading so much into it. Even I am thinking it a bit absurd...and that is saying something.
Noel expressed frustration with the fact that he didn't feel very supported and people are acting like he was screaming from the rooftops the Andy Bell is a cowardly son of a bitch with no sense of honor or decency who deserves nothing but bad things and he has always hated him.
How absurd is that? Prior to the tensions at the end they all seemed to be on good terms to a greater or lesser extent. Sure Noel never seemed like Andy was his best friend but he also didn't give any indication that he loathed him. He gave every indication that respected and continues to respect Andy musically if not personally.
Except for the day of the press conference (and NME article) Noel hasn't said anything negative in regards to Andy. I don't think even he intended people to climb on the Andy is a douche wagon so resolutely or the react so strongly about Noels fairly mild admonishment. He even said in the NME article that he understands that it's hard to come between him and Liam and they probably wouldn't have listened. But is it really SO bad that he wishes someone would have tried? He's obviously been thinking about what could have saved Oasis all year.
The fact is that he needed to say why it was that he included lack of support from his band members in his statement. It was obviously something that made an impression on him that night. He mentioned it but he wasn't nearly so cutting as we all know he can be. After all the vicious thing Noel has said over the years...seriously...was it really that passionate a condemnation?

After all the vicious thing Noel has said over the years...seriously...was it really that passionate a condemnation? in an interview, gem said something long the lines of 'noel was a good guy to WORK FOR'. i think that speaks volumes about the fact that near the end, oasis wasn't a band/cohesive unit as much as it was a business and a job. i'm sure to that extent, there was a bit of frustration building up in andy after hearing noel spout off about liam and the whole situation... after all, andy is a human being... when someone is terminated from a job, deep down isn't that person tempted to throw the former boss under the bus? (and andy didn't even do that---- for the most part, he took the high road!) i think much of the (negative) reaction to what andy said comes down to the fact that he's always been 'the quiet one' all these years and people were genuinely taken aback that he actually had something to say about the whole situation.

^^ Agreed. (with gdforever)
I don't know how "Andy was staring at his shoes" turned into the biggest insult ever. I just don't understand how it's SO insulting.

No one said it was an insult, but naming Andy alone while the whole band was there -according to Noel- was uncalled for. Andy has every right to tell his version, nothing wrong with that.

a lot of things go without saying in this ordeal. the fact that beady eye people tend to get defensive about it makes me wonder
noel never became defensive. he's just said his end of it and that was it. with all of liam's crap through the years I don't think we can say this is all of noel's fault.
and I never use douche, I think it's also stupid. bell is a punk as a person, but I do love AQP lol

The only one Noel mentioned being there was Andy. Gem has already said he was out smoking. Chris was getting soup. Noel has mentioned resenting both Gem and Andy a bit but understands that there probably wasn't much they could have done. That he mostly blames himself and Liam. So it isn't like he has singled out Andy full stop. But he was the only band member there so he was mentioned. Andy also said "there were three of us there." So even Andy is in agreement. Noel gave the impression that some touring staff around though which Andy doesn't acknowledge or disavow. I think both of them have a right to speak. Andy has his right. But he hasn't added anything or even contradicted anything that Noel said about the events in Paris. In my mind the final straw that makes me say that Noel had to leave and he was right to was the violence. I don't think there is ever an excuse for violence unless you are defending yourself physically. And that is the one thing that Andy and Liam can't change. The small particulars are inconsequential to me.

The small particulars are inconsequential to me. I remember him saying -or at least implying- that the others were there, and members here were justifying Noel singling Andy out by saying things like "maybe Gem did step in before and Andy never did." I'm not saying Noel's right or the other way round, all I'm saying is Noel mentioned him by name, so it's only natural he's gonna have something to say. I'm not Andy's biggest fan, but I think he's being treated unfairly here, especially in this thread. The name-calling is a bit overboard.

We were wondering at the time why Noel would have mentioned looking @ Andy and seeing him staring at his shoes and not saying anything and not mentioned anyone else.
I know personally I had forgotten that Gem had already said he had been out smoking when it all went down. Noel obviously used the plural "people who were in the band" because he didn't want to necessarily single out Andy exclusively. I doubt he realized how caught up the fanbase would get in the shoe counting comment.
If Andy had been the only member there it's pretty obvious why Noel would have specifically mentioned him and not Gem in the context of the story.
I agree with you that he doesn't deserve being called names because of Noel's comment. But neither do I believe that Noel deserves to be called an asshole for his comment either. BOTH of which have been happening on this thread a lot.
I believe that the gist of my point is that I thought that Noel had never intended his small comment about Andy staring at his shoes and not saying anything as a reason to jump on a "A.B. is a douche" bandwagon. I don't think he said it to turn people against Andy. And I don't think the comment deserves the level of vile that is being hurled @ Noel for being even moderately critical of anyones behavior last night other than his and Liam's.
I think Noel has been fair to Andy. He didn't call him any names. He didn't say he contributed to any of tensions just that he didn't relieve them. He simply said that Andy didn't say anything when Noel felt it was something that involved all of them. He said in and interview later that day that he resented Gem and Andy a bit for the parts they played in the split and realized that Liam and he probably wouldn't have listened.
I think everyone in this thread thinks that Noel is putting more blame on Andy than he really is and are reacting to a mostly imagined slight.

The third one from the left. He's the one counting his shoes.
The one smiling at the camera is Gem on drugs

NME: What about Andy Bell? He seems to be conspiciously absent whenever you list the non-Liam members of Oasis you're on good terms with.
Noel: Well, he sat in the fucking room in Paris that night, didn't say a fucking word. I was like "You know what? I haven't got time for people like that". I've got nothing against him, he's a fucking lovely guy, and great to be in a band with, but really, when it came down to it, he didn't chirp up. I'm like 'Fuckin hell, you sit there saying nothing while the band implodes around you'. But good luck to 'em all, y'know? Seriously. Good luck to 'em.

The whole "counting the shoes comment" just means Andy was gazing off into space or looking down knowing full well what's going on but has no desire to do the right thing and speak up. For example:
If I had two friends who were on the verge of a fight I would get out of my chair and try to settle things down. That's the adult thing to do and that is what a friend should do.
Andy Bell obviously didn't care enough to speak up and help his fellow friend out. It's pretty simple actually....

andy is still the most boring human being to be in a rock band its pretty hard to look cool next to liam or noel isnt it. besides that I think he has cooler stories to tell then you;) Ive nothing but respect for that guy. he is great guitarist and bassist. a solid songwriter and he cant be that boring if he made it 10 years in oasis. cheers
