I can't stand Coldplay. Their music has no balls!!!! Not to mention their songs are so predictable and boring. I've basically stopped listening to the radio cause half the time it's Coldplay or Snow Patrol. Also, Coldgay has such lame lyrics it's borderline atrocious. Am I alone on this one or will I draw hatred? Let the battle commence  |

Because they are predictable and boring? That seems to be the formula for very, very popular music. I don't mind them one bit though; X&Y is an alright album and they're pretty easy to ignore when I want to.

X&Y was atrocious on every level IMO.
I'm not militant is my dislike of Coldplay (although I may get there yet) but that album YUCK!

i like some Coldplay songs. Chris Martin's a weirdo, anyone that names their kid 'Apple' is a wackadoo and he obviously needs to have a drink but Coldplay are alright. i've actualy seen them live, they put on a great show.

Yeah they have good energy live and a few strong singles, but nothing to ring the town bell about. Their popularity is due to the universal theme of their songs and the fuzzy dad-rock family-friendly sound of Chris Martins voice.
Also the fact that Martin isn't very arrogant and comes across as loveable and modest in most interviews, they succeeded where Oasis failed - the public relations department, they've tweaked the media tighter than David Hasselhoff tweaks his breakfast bratwurst. The only thing that hurts them is overexposure, 'Viva La Vida' and 'Clocks' get way too much radio-play.
But you can't deny the genius in 'Yellow', or 'Don't Panic' or 'Spies'.

I may have gone a little overboard but I really start to get agitated after 5 seconds of listening to Coldplay. I've never had some much hatred towards a band in all my life! I do remember hearing a song called Green Eyes at the store and I couldn't believe it was Coldplay cause it was actually listenable. Oh well.....

Coldplay have some really good songs. Of course many of their album tracks are rather boring, but they're still one of the better famous bands out there. I really like this one song, Talk. The riff and the chorus sound a bit like Supersonic, which can't be a bad thing. |

yup, we've done this before. many of us don't like Coldplay. some others do.
I, personally, can't stand Chris Martin. I think he's an idiot and I've seen some live shows and he didn't appeal to me at all.
Music's shit too. Except Parachutes, maybe. it has some good tunes in it.
I guess their music quality became shittier as they went world wide famous

From somebody who ACTUALLY thinks Kasabian's albums are better than Coldplay's... and who thinks Kasabian are actually the greatest band ever... while stating he can see reasons as to why people like JLS. Deluded much? Well, Noel a few years back stated Parachutes (along with a Doves album) are the only truly great album of the noughties, and I completely agree with him It's fashionable to hate Coldplay because they aren't rock n roll but fuck those who slate them as I don't care. I think they're excellent and their first two albums are fantastic - easily better than most of the shite mentioned on this site. Granted, X&Y wasn't any good at all but Viva La Vida was a very good album, besides that, none of their albums have ever been slated by critics - but their new single is just appalling. And as Let It Bleed refers upon, they are a fantastic live band. One of the very best in the world. |

Coldplay were tolerable and somewhat decent early on (see AROBTTH) before they became U2 wanna-bes (a band I can't stand), and overly pretentious (see their idiotic idea of two tracks in one on their last album - a concept which ruined Death and All His Friends track, the first half of which is really good).
VLV is the most pretentious and annoying album by them. How anyone likes that dross is beyond me.
Also, one can only take so much yelping from Chris Martin.....
If I'm on a plane, or a long car trip and want to sleep, I'll put them on my ipod and drift off. Otherwise, I don't listen to them.
