Noel also played about 50 seconds of this song on keyboards in the 'Lord Don't Slow Me Down' DVD. I believe they were in a music shop in Japan. Is that what he was playing? I thought it was something different, thought the music/sound was an overdub from someone else

Back end of 1997/early 1998 with the BHN Tour, according to Paolo Hewitt's tour record in "Forever The People"

HEhe yeah, but to be honest, when you put it back in context, he probably wasn't even aware himself he was going there. The drug thing again.

The instrumental should have been the basis for Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. I don't think it really turned out that way though sadly - band members left and Noel seemed to reign in all in to fit a more conventional sound. His ability to write an atmospheric soundscape that conjours up the atmosphere of something very mysterious is obviously there with Teotihuacan and that is something that is worked on in the studio (see all electronic/ambient artists), so in a way Noel should have approached Standing with that idea of experimentation. A clean slate where melody and lyrics is built around instrumentals and the evocation that provokes, as opposed to the standard ready made tunes all created via acoustic guitar (considering what he has said recently about recent recording procedures, this is something I hope occurs with his next album).
There are hints of trying something different but it follows the same conventional structures of past Oasis songs but with more lush production. Of course, there are moments of genius on the album (e.g. Gas Panic) but it's inevitably a let down because much of it is familiar but tired.
