I did this for BTL when it came out. So I thought it would only be fair to start one for Noel's first single. Plus I am interested in what everyone is thinking about the song specifically.
Please avoid negativity about other people choices and don't even bother posting things that you don't like about it. Even those that don't like it must be able to find a little something interesting.
What is you favorite part of The Death of You and Me. It could be a small segment of the song, an instrument part, an overall feel. Whatever.
Personally I love
The piano behind the chorus. The Lyric "I'm watching my TV, or is it watching me" (which is funny because I hated it when it was tweeted) That he changes the lyrics between the chorus' The lyric "I see another new day dawning it's rising over me and my mortality" The New Orleans jazzy brass is general I like how he sings the word coming "cause i can feel the storm clouds coming" and then dawning from "another new day dawning"
OK...I think that I've gotten fan-girly enough for my taste.

The way the lyrics of the verse and chorus blend together. Also the slide guitar (or whatever makes that AQP sound). And the general British Summer sound to it

I've said a lot of my bit in the First Impressions thread, but one of my favorite parts is how the last line of the verses and the first line of the chorus is one continuous sentence.
EDIT: Damn! Looks like deasy beat me to it by mere seconds.

The increase in snare drum hits during the chorus. Love that.

Also the appregio guitar-lick at the beginning and end of the song.

What you guys said-the way the verse blends into the chorus makes the song. Such a smooth move...
Also love when Noel repeats the final chorus with different words (his best words of the song imo). That's the climax of the song.
And of course the brass! Comes out of nowhere, dropped on our heads!
I don't know why, but as much as I love TIOBI, it always sounded retro to me (in a classic way). TDOYAM sounds much more modern to my ears. All of the elements (strings, brass, country-ish vibe, unique structure) make it more original, with less of a reference point to earlier songs.

If I'm being honest, i like TSOYAM better than TIOBI. Think it has a better chorus.

' ....watching the TV or is it watching me?' genius. I love that line, too. It reminds me of Orwell's, "1984", which is one of my favorite books.

I immediately preferred TDOYAM over TIOBI. Better song, not to mention the production is miles better on TDOYAM. TIOBI was too "squashed", harsh and compressed. TDOYAM is dynamic and full of room to breathe.

I also love the slowed down outro. Very theatric.

I agree with a lot of what you guys have said.
The way the verse and chorus blend is what first caught me about the song...that was the moment I knew I really liked it during the first airplay.
The repeat of the chorus with different lyrics at the end is phenomenal as well. That TV line had us all worried before the song came out but ended up being amazing in context.
The chorus generally feels sky high to me. I felt like shouting it even on the second and third listens. I can imagine it'll be a massive singalong live.
To quote LIB, good things.

Realistically...is this one of Noel's most anthemic choruses since DLBIA? I can easily envision people in stadiums belting this one out, like they do for DLBIA. I can't think of any song Noel has written since then that has that same quality.

I like the whole tune. But if you were to ask me (as you already have) I would say the way he sings 'my mortality'

It's a great chorus but I don't think anthemic is the word. And it doesn't try to be.
I could imagine people singing along...but with the fact that the lyrics moving along at a faster pace and that they change. I think that a crowd of thousands would sound a bit muddled. Not like DBLIA or Wonderwall.
I think if Noel tried to stand back and let the crowd sing it they'd fall behind or get confused.
