gdforever needs more cowbell. Don't you think a cowbell would have sounded great coming in on that first chorus?

The first time he does the falsetto-y bit in the chorus "seem to spend my (whole life running)" is my favourite moment. On the first listen that was the part which brought a huge grin to my face and reminded me the Chief really was back!

I never thought that "more cowbell" skit on SNL was funny, but I think I may be the only one thinking that.
My favorite part is the verse 2-into-chorus. The "let's run away together, you and me, together we'll be free." It's simple and it's brilliant.

I like the lyrics - dodgy at the start but quickly improved, and it's not the nonsensical rhyming either. I love the brass - unexpected, a nice surprise.

I also love the TV line, but I especially love how he slightly alters the melody for that line.

It's a great chorus but I don't think anthemic is the word. And it doesn't try to be. I could imagine people singing along...but with the fact that the lyrics moving along at a faster pace and that they change. I think that a crowd of thousands would sound a bit muddled. Not like DBLIA or Wonderwall. I think if Noel tried to stand back and let the crowd sing it they'd fall behind or get confused. Agreed. Still a great song but the words need to be slower for a sing-along. Think the end of "Hey Jude" or pretty much any of the choruses from the MG album.

The best part of the song to me, are the lyrics in general.
It is refreshing for Noel to finally concentrate on his lyrics again, rather than making a whole song full of shine, silver, soul, city, town, mind, or brain, and him rhyming anything that has "ay" at the end of it, a million times. Instead, he just used city, soul, and shine.
The lyrics seem to mean something more with this song, because he using other phrasings and terms, rather than a collection of stock words, or phrases that he's used a million times.

"Sucking up my soul..." Makes the whole song for me. That's the most awkward line for me. For some reason.

I thought the line was "the bottom of a bottle is every man's apostle" but at one point I did think it was puzzle too.

Also the appregio guitar-lick at the beginning and end of the song. There's not enough love for this bit and I love it.
