Nirvana's 1991 album Nevermind – the epoch-defining record that Rolling Stone has declared the Number One album of the Nineties and the 17th greatest album of all time – will be reissued on September 20th as a deluxe 5-disc edition.
The expanded set celebrates the 20th anniversary of the record's original release with an extensive collection of previously unheard recordings, rarities, b-sides, radio sessions, live performances and an unreleased concert presented in its entirety.
Going to have to buy this

17th greatest of all time? Sorry did you mean to say 170th? That is way out of line, I knew this record was overrated but that's just ludicrous.
Has 3-4 great songs and the rest is sub-par imo. I prefer In Utero. Just shows what a death and short lifespan can do to a bands legacy.

MAAAAN where can i pre-order this from!? It looks ace! The limited, numbered Super Deluxe Edition only 10,000 copies available in North America, and another 30,000 for the rest of the world. The Super Deluxe features the original remastered album and accompanying studio and live B-sides, the first full official release of the pre-Nevermind demos recorded at producer Butch Vig's Smart Studios, as well as boombox recordings of subsequent rehearsals. The Super Deluxe also includes a new perspective on the finished Nevermind album exclusive to the Super DE t in the form of the Devonshire Mixes: the album as produced and mixed by Vig as opposed to the final version produced by Vig and mixed by Andy Wallace. Also on the Super Deluxe are a pair of previously unreleased BBC recordings and the 1991 Paramount show available for the first time and exclusive to this format on CD and DVD (which also features all four music videos from Nevermind), as well as a stunning 90-page bound book full of rarely and never- before-seen photos, documents and various other visual artifacts of the Nevermind era. The Paramount concert, transferred from 16mm film and multi-track audio, is the only known Nirvana concert shot to film and will be available in a 1080p high-definition picture and uncompressed 5.1 surround sound and stereo on stand-alone Blu-ray, along with DVD and digital long form video formats.

Nevermind got so much attention because there wasn't much else out there at the time of it's release and it kinda came out of nowhere on top of it being a great, commercially and universally friendly album. aloha.

I've been dropping money on a lot of deluxe/pre-order things lately so I doubt I'll get this. Love Nirvana, though.

without nevermind, i doubt oasis definitely maybe would have its large guitar wall of sound!! nirvana were huge at the time, had oasis come along in the baggy madchester scene im sure DM would have sounded very different.

It's a case of a band arriving at the exact right place at the exact right time with a record that hit the exact right spot with a generation of confused and outcasted youth. Nevermind was probably America's version of Never Mind the Bollocks in it's social impact and affect on mainstream music. But despite some strong and anthemic singles that perfectly enscapulated the asethetic of the time, the album as a whole is by no means spectacular. I think that it's so treasured for what it symbolizes rather than the strength of the actual songs themselves. If you look at Never Mind the Bollocks, it has 3-4 brilliant singles and about 5 filler. Nevermind is similar. But I suppose the legacy it has is not necessarily excessive considering what it stood for at the time and what it still stands for today. I wonder why Please Hammer, Don't Hurt Em didn't stir up as much interest when it turned 20 last year?!

God bless Kurt Cobain

I prefer Live at Reading and MTV Unplugged (the production on Nevermind kills it for me), but you can't deny the impact Nevermind had.

Nevermind, In Utero, and Unplugged all have some amazing moments. Let's not spoil the party by worrying about how they are rated by Rolling Stone.
Aloha!

Yeah, Nirvana weren't neither revolutionary nor inovative, but they lead the way for the alternative rock bands to broke into mainstream, but Oasis also did it with UK, USA opened his eyes for UK after Oasis paved the way for bands like Radiohead, Verve, Coldplay and Arctic Monkeys.

Ill Have to give Nirvana a listen at some point, only ever heard teen spirit definitely take a listen. try and listen to it with an open mind, too. they really were a great band. take away the stigma of the 13 year old hot topic emo/punk wannabes and you still have a damn good record there.

Nevermind is brilliant. dont know how many of you are from america but it was a gamechanger in music. regardless of kurts death at the time and yr after its release it was viewed as a a defining of a generation.. smells like teen spirit, lithium, come as you are sound so damn great today, its amazing how well they hold up. I swear im not even a big Nirvana fan, dont even own In Utero.. But gotta give this group respect imo

OVERRATED, and I like Nirvana for the record. But it gets way too much hype for what it is. I get that it means something to people, but it is also a small fraction of the problem we currently have with the music scene and society as a whole. Nirvana taught us all to say "Fuck You!" to the mainstream do as your parents did society. Unfortunately, that has brought rise to a lot of problems.
In short, everyone is apathetic to life now.

Nirvana were and are great, i'm sorry you can't see that but whatever. Nirvana were rebellion. Nirvana were emotion. Kurt Cobain had more charisma and emotion in his pinkie than most people have in their entire bodies. aloha!
