Kasabian are the best band in the world.

Really, Jim? I think that the stuff with and without Karloff is great, I don't see that it goes downhill or anything... In fact, West Ryder is probably my top, top, top favourite album ever. And I watched TiTP on TV, and it was mega... Then I went to V a couple of months later, and that was even better... And I think it's only a matter of time before they headline stadiums... Next year, I think, once they have a name in America, they'll be doing arenas there and stadiums here. Each to their own, though. However, I just don't see where you're coming from. Of course you don't see where I'm coming from, Kasabian are your favourite band! To be perfectly honest with you Tom, I followed that band from the start. I went to see them in 2004 at King Tut's, The Barra's too and Glasgow Academy in 2005 (when Serge got hit with a pint and walked off stage) while they toured the first album. They were raw and full of energy, and I don't mean Tom jumping about shouting like a keep fit instructor! Their appeal was that they used the bass as a lead instrument and the electronic / synths that Karloff brought to the music was fantastic and a major part in their growth. The Movement meant something, the fans were very much a part of it back then. I loved them. After going on tour with Oasis on the DBTT tour their was a definite change in the band. Weeks before Empire is due to drop Karloff leaves due to "musical differences" and instead of having songs like Processed Beats and L.S.F. we get Shoot the Runner and British Legion? Tom and Serge wanted to be Noel and Liam, they moved away from the bands roots and wanted to be a rock 'n' roll band. Empire is not a good album, it has not aged well and the songs only work well live. I still gave them a shot though, I went to see them in the SECC, not great, however at T in the Park 2007 they were immense and I thought I was wrong, these boys are good. With West Ryder, there is just too much of Serge, he is not a good singer. He sang to many songs on the album and his backing vocals overpower Tom's lead. Vlad, Underdog and Fire are great tunes, but again work better live, as is always the story with Kasabian. Again I went to see them in 2009 at the SECC, not great, the middle of the set sagged completely. I watched them headline T in the park in 2010, the crowd was poor as was the band. No interaction with the crowd. That wasn't the band I listened to and followed. You may have watched them on TV but that is a different sound mix you are hearing. They never fixed the sound until 6 songs into the set. For your thought they will be in Stadiums in the UK, I'm sorry in my opinion that is not going to happen. 50000 fans are not going to go to Hampden, Manchester or Sunderland and they will not get 90000 at Wembely. They do not have that kind of mass appeal. They are still playing the same arena's that they were playing in 2006 and it is always quite easy to get a ticket for them after the initial ticket rush. The fact that they are playing clubs in the US, 7 years after their first tour suggests they have absolutely no chance of breaking that market. Oasis only played in bigger arenas like MSG and Boston because they had an established fanbase otherwise it was theatres in the States. Kasabian are over their for their fans that they have largely ignored for so long. They do not have a song to break the US. A great singles band, no classic albums though. I'm sorry if you don't like what I've wrote but that is my opinion and I hope you respect that as I do yours. You may know this or not but I ran a Kasabian blog for years, Club Empire, so I understand your passion for them 100%

Yeah, totally respect your opinion, Jim. Although I may not totally agree with it, I respect it... Hey, at least you like them a bit! But tbh, I can't be bothered to write a massive reply like you did, but it wouldn't take much imagination to work out what I would say, as I say it all the time You could be worse, you could be one of the people that say they hate them just to wind me up

Sorry you feel that way Jim, I loved Club Empire (and your oasis blog). Just recently I tried to find it only to discover it was gone I love the band and I prefer the direction they're going in (although I think Velcorapter was a step down from WRPLA)

Yeah blogger deleted Club Empire a couple of years ago for some unknown reason. Shame because it was a good reference for gigs. Dollrock does a great job with One Two One Two though. I have no idea where I put all the bootlegs, sitting in some box somewhere in storage when I moved.
Just one of those things with Kasabian, they went in a direction that wasn't for me but as I said to Tom I understand fully why people are into them.

I agree with Jim, in that Kasabian won't be playing arenas in North America. Took Oasis 10 years to finally break North America and play sold-out arenas.

BTW, Days Are Forgotten is absolutely brilliant Tom! Though, Velociraptor! is definitely nowhere as good as West Ryder.

I don't think Karloff leaving has made them worse - to me they are still at that level of their debut, which of course is a great level to be. But I genuinely wonder where they would be with Karloff now - do you think they would be even better? It's just that when Serge maybe lacks inspiration on a couple of tracks in an album, this could have been filled by Karloff's contribution - that's just a theory of course. I genuinely think Kasabian, West Ryder and Velociraptor are all pretty much level par for me, Empire is poor IMO. As Jim said, the highlights included Karloff, while tunes like Shoot The Runner (with the most cringeworthy lyric 'he's the king and she's my queen..... BITCH!') and British Legion are just a downright embarrassment which makes Coldplay look like heavy metal. I thought they were suffering from second album syndrome and that they would never regain the momentum of the first album. I don't think Serge is a good singer at all, his voice is very thin and weak. I don't know whether he tries to take a Noel type role by occasionally taking the spotlight, but the big difference is Noel is a very good singer. Which made it all more surprising when I listened to West Ryder and Velociraptor and loved them. And it's good to see the critics warming to them much more - Velociraptor was very well received and probably the best received Kasabian album by the press, and thankfully they've stopped being compared with shite indie bands like The Enemy and other loutish pub crap.
That said, their tunes make you bounce - I absolutely love Let's Roll which is my favourite song at the moment. I just wonder what direction they'll take next. Despite the criticisms, a very good band and one that I've followed since I heard Club Foot on FIFA 2004! I hope they take their music to greater levels and I still think that's possible having listened to Velociraptor. There's plenty of mileage in them yet, perhaps not being 'stadium acts' (I never really though of their music as 'anthemic' to fit a stadium but that's not a criticism of course) but certainly enough to keep their albums being interesting.

Matt, about the Karloff thing, he's the main man for Black Onassis now, they only have 2 songs out there right now, but it's worth checking them out...
NH, it's the night before. I bought it when it first came out about 3 months ago...

Kasabian are playing Rock Am Ring tonight. There's a live stream somewhere, I think... If I find it, I'll post a link... The times are a bit confusing. It's either 6:20 or 9:05 local time... Not too sure.
