It seems like this band has a universal following, so I thought it would be good to get a general thread going - and then another separate thread to to discuss the forthcoming album, of course.
Just curious what people think of their previous 3 efforts, and how most rank them?

I like them, but yet to be fully convinced by them.
Their first album is good, although Empire is quite frankly shocking. One of the worst albums in my collection - cannot listen to it, just awful. West Ryder was good and a step in the right direction though, so hopes are high for the next album. They're yet to release a truly great album so I think this next album will be crucial.

First album is one of the best debut albums of the last ten years. Empire is...meh 3 or 4 good songs and you can keep the rest. West Ryder is a masterpiece. It took ages for it to grow on me but after seeing them live (twice) I love it to bits. You can NOT judge this band on their studio albums. They NEED to be seen live to fully appreciate them. One of my abiding memories of Slane (yes the year oasis played) was the whole hill po-going on the spot to Fire!

I've seen them 6 times and their Paradiso gig last year February was absolute mental. Paradiso never has barriers, but thank god they had them at that gig. They saved me and all the others during the gig.

Switchblade Smiles is a great song and it's not even going to be the lead single.

Switchblade Smiles is a great song and it's not even going to be the lead single. Ah right, that's good. Thought they were billing it as the major tune of the album.

More of a Brick by Brick, Vlad the Impaler, Falling Down track to wet the appetite. I'm not sure but I remember hearing that Velociraptor! would be the lead single.

Disagree with all the Empire hate.
It's the weakest Kasabian album but Empire, Shoot the Runner, Me Plus One, By My Side, Stuntman, British Legion and Doberman are all great tunes.

Empire Was Pish - End Of. Shoot the Runner was an amazing song. Saver on the album. Empire itself is a pretty pish song now. Overplayed at the time now i can't fuckin stand it although i still love the video. First album was alright. Not listened to it for ages tho. 3rd Album is a babe <3. I adore it. Just the whole time when it was released. I went through one of these times where everything that could have gone right for me, did go right for me and that night at Murrayfield, well,If it wasn't for Oasis, Kasabian would have been the best there. I remember sitting in the front room at my dad's on my laptop speaking to a friend (Well she's a friend now!), Who'd asked me out, I ofc said yes then i saw the Sony Bravia advert 5 minutes later. I was blown away by the intro then i heard the vocals and i was like 'THATS KASABIAN NEW SONG'. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck, What a moment. What a Moment. 4th album's gonna be mega. I've made a verbal agreement with my mate that cos one of us will be able to drive by the time the albums released, that we WILL be seeing them live at some point during the tour

Empire is mediocre but has some great tunes such as Shoot The Runner & The Doberman but has some absolute stinkers on there too and bits of filler in between.
2 really good albums either side though make up for it and nobody ever really thinks about Empire, the decent songs make the set and the poor ones are forgotten.
Cant wait for Velociraptor! I just think its gonna have this amazing blend of Kasabian meets West Ryder and I cannot wait for that type of sound and live they are truly amazing, one of the best around.

They'll never be as big as Coldplay. Maybe because nothing is as mainstream as Coldplay I would take a Kasabian gig over a Coldplay one any day of the week. With regards to Empire: Shoot The Runner, Sun Rise Light Flies, By My Side, Doberman, Stuntman are all fantastic. Empire is ok and the rest are forgettable really. I will say though that it was a hard period for the band as a key member left halfway through of the album so that probably affected some of the quality.

Both bands are really great live acts there is no doubt about that - they give you your every penny's worth. But judging on both bands latest new songs? Barring their very poor new single (which I hope to god isn't on their new album), the Coldplay songs I think are far far superior.

I FUCKING LOVE KASABIAN- They were the first band I really discovered on my own... So, naturally, they are my favourite band of all time I've seen them 4 times (Would have been more if I was a couple of years older and had more money)... I saw them at Wembley Arena- September 2009, Brixton Academy- August 2010, V Festival, Chelmsford- August 2010 and just on Wednesday, I saw them at the Manchester Apollo... AND I MET SERGE!!!!! Favourite of the 3 albums is Kasabain, then WRPLA, then Empire... I don't agree with all the Empire hate, just look at songs like Empire, Shoot The Runner, Stuntman, Doberman, etc. However, it is the weakest of the three albums... The people who are saying Coldplay are better are idiots... Coldplay are shite and Kasabian are fecking AWESOME!!!! The new album will be the best out of the lot, trust me!!!! I've been chatting with a few people that have heard the whole album and they have nothing but praise for it... and I have heard Velociraptor and Switchblade Smiles live... and let me tell you, they are MIND BLOWING! I know that almost everyone in the world won't agree with me here, but in my eyes, because I lvoe them so much, they are the best thing that ever happened to this world!!!!

They'll never be as big as Coldplay. And their lead single won't chart as high as the new Lady Gaga song feat. Jason Derulo and produced by David Guetta. Doesn't mean that it won't be a whole lot better.

They'll never be as big as Coldplay. Leave. Also whilst we're on the subject of Kasabian - Anyone Remember Serge's Goal on Soccer AM? Was quite possibly the finest thing i've ever seen.

Until Kasabian make an album that's as good as the first two Coldplay records, then I will reconsider. The size of the band has no bearing at all, but purely on musical merits, Coldplay are a much much better band.

the first album is great I love it Empire is an alright album it has four great tunes but the problem is with the rest of the album is just un-inspired and has no soul in it the third one is a masterpiece I love it, it grew on me so much it's definitely one of the best albums in 2000s
the thing about Kasabian is that they're so unique and different which make them special to me
