Called 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall'
Thoughts?
I'm not really keen on it.
Just caught someone on youtube saying it sounds similar to this. It's sampled though so they ain't getting sued.

Pretty average. Not keen on the lyrics either.
Verse reminds me of Kesha - Tik Tok. This is a bad thing.

It's bad,
And it's not that one that they sampled, it's another one (Go To Rio)

I don't hate it, but it is pretty generic. At least it's not pretentious with yelping vocals.

It's rubbish... rubbish! Miss the old Coldplay, when they had songs with good melodies, great chorus to the songs. And played real instruments. Now it's all so computer-ish, and identity resolved. And the guitar work sounds like Strawberry Swing, which feels kinda lazy. I've lost hope of Coldplay now. I accepted that they wanted to try something new with Viva La Vida in 2008 and liked the album at the time (even though the album hasn't stand the test of time), but now I want them to make real pop music again. Like with the second album. Which I really like!

I hope this track is just a leftover like Chrismas Lights(wich is awesome) this song is an experiment but it dosnt has that something that makes me want to hear more from this band.

Looks like i'm the first one to like it. Great summer tune, a band trying to make it into the modern charts! fair play! NME have just confirmed that Peter Allen - Go To Rio is a contribution to the track. Personally i like it.
I think if Arcade Fire did it you would all be singing a different tune

Never has a band divided so much opinion - overplayed at times, but their first two albums are really great - still far far superior to any other current big British bands output it's a joke. This song is fine, nothing extraordinary, but like Viva La Vida (which I really liked - much superior to the dull X&Y) this seems to suffer from the same problem of overproduction. The producers seem to have let Chris Martin's vocals be drowned out by so much goings on in the tunes. Where are the crisp clean vocals of Clocks, Trouble or Green Eyes? He's got a great voice as those tunes show but unlike Liam Gallagher, you can't hear him that well over the wall of noise.
I'll be really interested as to how the album takes shape but the songs need to be of different class if it is to separate itself from Viva La Vida - tempo sounds similar to a couple of the tunes from that album.

You can call it a summer hit, but that's what stupid singers/bands are for. Not Coldplay. I expected more from them.

I am not a massive Coldplay fan I'll admit. But I do like a few songs
This sounds rubbish though.
That being said...it's Coldplay so I wouldn't be surprised if it were massive. If they play something enough on radio and say it's good the sheep will follow and it'll get stuck in their heads by simple repetition.

How can a band go from this fantastic piece of music: to this new shit that they released yesterday? A mystery for me.

Pretty average. Not keen on the lyrics either. Verse reminds me of Kesha - Tik Tok. This is a bad thing. Funny because as I was listening to it I said that they are one song away from being Kesha...

As others in this thread have said, their first two albums were fantastic. Then they tried to be U2 (X & Y) and Arcade Fire (Viva La Vida). Now it sounds like they are just ripping off electronic top 40 crap.

If they play something enough on radio and say it's good the sheep will follow and it'll get stuck in their heads by simple repetition. You can tell if a song is going to be massive - I can assure you this won't be massive, it's just not good enough. It's not Viva La Vida, which, with it's clever lyrics, is just a fantastic pop song. Anyway, new songs were played on their first live performance last night - said they were way better than this, well it better be.

Anyway, new songs were played on their first live performance last night - said they were way better than this, well it better be. You are probably right. I'm probably cynically overestimating Coldplay's appeal. I read an article of an interview with Martin about their 'look' for the album. He said something about trying to take a bit of the polish off the band. Something about the look being inspired by 70's graffiti...all I could think was...you poser. You can't create character for a band artificially like that IMO
