You can tell if a song is going to be massive - I can assure you this won't be massive, it's just not good enough. It's not Viva La Vida, which, with it's clever lyrics, is just a fantastic pop song. Anyway, new songs were played on their first live performance last night - said they were way better than this, well it better be. You are probably right. I'm probably cynically overestimating Coldplay's appeal. I read an article of an interview with Martin about their 'look' for the album. He said something about trying to take a bit of the polish off the band. Something about the look being inspired by 70's graffiti...all I could think was...you poser. You can't create character for a band artificially like that IMO Well, The Beatles did it with Sgt Pepper. I have no problem with bands doing this - it emphasises the concept of the album they are promoting, Kasabian did it with West Ryder - at least in promoting the album with shots of the band for example. Anyway, as a Coldplay fan, here are new songs performed live posted just very recently, and I'm relieved to say they are BRILLIANT - check them out! 'Teardrops' had me worried, but these tunes have got me excited. I am loving the more emphasis on Jonny Buckland's guitar - sounds a bit like John Squire on Hurts Like Heaven!

It's not so much the idea of running with a concept...more the idea of trying to specifically thinking "people think we're soft...I'll where these clothes and change my hair and they'll think I'm harder."

For me I loved Coldplay's early stuff. Since then they have had moments of greatness..This new single isn't 1 of them!

I've never really thought that performing in French Revolution outfits for Viva La Vida gives anyone a 'hard image'. Coldplay are a bunch of smart decent guys and their use of imagery worked well with Viva La Vida. Also, they are one of the best live bands in the world and Chris Martin is one of the very best frontmen and he interacts well with his audience, unlike dullards like Kings of Leon. Surely there's nothing wrong in putting on a show for the fans? To me it's all about the music and they still make fantastic music in my opinion (barring X&Y). Despite the new single, these other song show that they're continuing to make brilliant music. The amount of criticism they receive is unfair. It's all about the music - who cares if they are a bunch of softies?

It's all about the music - who cares if they are a bunch of softies? Who said anything about Viva La Vida? I'm talking about an interview with Martin about this album. The idea of trying to look more edgy was voiced by him. The idea of thought being put into aesthetics isn't what I am talking about The uniforms for Viva La Vida were fair enough IMO. Aesthetics can be very striking. But trying to get people to think that you are edgy or harder because your looks and stage refer to 70's graffiti? Give me a break There is nothing wrong with them being soft-rock. He's a straight-laced man in a soft-rock band. Embrace it.

Wasn't this album supposed to sound like Parachutes?

Yeah I do embrace it and that's the problem with narrow minded music 'fans' because they don't snort cocaine of prositutes tits. I don't care what they are like. And when Chris Martin claimed he was going for a 'harder look' it was all tongue in cheek towards those who slate their soft boy image. Watch him in interviews and he's always taking the mick. But anything he does is wrong of course - the guy isn't allowed to do anything.

I love Coldplay, but their new stuff isn't very good. Maybe it will grow on me, but right now I'll stick to listening to their old stuff!!

Firsat album is still their best, not to say i haven't enjoyed their others, I just think it captured them fresh from being just a guitar band with no studio trickery and excessive production to get in the way of some great songs..

those new tunes redeem that horrible new single. simple as that. I agree, other than the single these new songs of theirs are brilliant. And credit to Jonny Buckland in particular... the guitar line on Hurts Like Heaven is fantastic.

And credit to Jonny Buckland in particular... the guitar line on Hurts Like Heaven is fantastic. Jonny Buckland seems to be on fire in these live tracks. Hopefully that single isn't on the album as nothing's been confirmed. But yes, those new tracks seem better than most tracks on Viva La Vida, which I really liked. Certainly, the quality of those tracks make my hopes really high for this album - more so than the disappointing new Kasabian tracks. This live performance is actually amazing - the best I've ever seen them.

In 2000 Most of the oasis real fans disappeared 'SOTSOG' hardly sold & they had class tracks .. even ''lets all make believe'' as a b-side then that shit song above ''moving to mars'' will probably get praised & the new single.
People are deaf these days listening to shit music.
