This is great news!
Unfortunately though, it's a bit late. Yeah it's planned around the US "tour", but it's one performance. And it's gonna have to be an amazing one for anyone, but Oasis fans to remember it. They really needed to do the rounds around a lot of the late night host. Don't get me wrong, it's great news. But in terms of promotion, its too little, too late.
They were suppose to do this kind of thing about a month ago. Waiting till the extremely short leg of the US "tour" was waiting a bit long. It would've been nice, if they had done this either just before the album came out or just after. I know people say that they don't care about chart positions and album sales, but in music you do need momentum. I just don't see how much momentum this will create. It's really weird timing for promotion.
Great news non the less.

Spaneli is right... to a degree. still, it's great promotion and i think they can stop by Jimmy Fallon's show because it also tapes in New York. I mean, it's possible since Liam was scheduled to be on it last year, right? who knows... let's just wait and see. If they can get on Letterman, obviously they can get on any other late night show, no doubt.

But if it's only Letterman, then I don't see how much of a difference this makes for BDI in the US.

Chart positions are separate from sales.
A slow burning album can sell as many as a flash-in-the-pan.
It was a bad idea from a chart perspective. But a sale is a sale and the albums sold now aren't any less valid than the ones sold release week.
If BDI can shift albums to new fans from the Letterman show, who gives a shit that those fans didn't jump on the bandwagon when it would have been most convenient from a charting perspective? The point is to develop their fanbase...this is a great thing regardless of timing.
No one in America that hears it on Letterman is going to think this is an old album...it's less than 2 months old FFS. BDI are barely a blip in America...it's not like they missed a big wave of hype over here by waiting...let's be honest. The hype was in the UK. It made sense for them to concentrate over there and maximize their exposure there before confronting the slog that it'll be to create some heat in the US.

it's pretty obvious BDI don't really care about promotion in america. they're playing small, select dates - and who can blame them. america sucks these days.

If you don't care about American promotion, then why do Letterman. They're playing club dates, because they know that they can sell those out. They're not going to sell out MSG or anything. The places that they will sell out, is a place like The Metro here in Chicago. Because they're playing those place doesn't mean that they don't care about promotion. It just means that they're going with what they are sure they can sell. If you don't care about promotion, great. But don't say that you don't care, but you're playing Letterman.

Yeah but how many people actually watch t.v. anymore. I can barely find anyone who watches anything live anymore.

What if they did Wigwam? I know it's impossible but it'd kick asses Anyway I'd like for them to play 3RC, Millionaire or FLW

they should seriously consider playing 3RC. As for whether or not they "care" for the American market... i really think they don't care much, in fact i am almost positive that the only reason why they're doing Letterman is because Dangirbird Rcds booked them to do so.

Anyone thinking this will do anything remotely of note to Beady Eye's chart success is off their rocker. It will have minimal, if any, impact. Tickets: www.cbs.com/late_night/late_show/tickets/online.phpJust a note on tickets for Letterman: These are not easy tickets to get. If you have even a slight hope to go, sign up immediately. If you are selected to receive tickets, the show will call you (make sure you have a legit # in your request) and either you will be asked to call another number or the person calling will ask you a trivia question about the Letterman show. They're not typically hard questions, but this is standard procedure for this show.

i wonder if you can sell the tix.... i mean, i might as well apply anyways... Completely impossible. You dont get any "tickets". You also can't sell your slot. You get put on a list and have to be on line at a certain time. Plus, they overbook, so even if you get confirmed, theres always a chance you dont get in. Anyone who's applying, Google around for the type of trivia questions they're asking recently. Its usually easy crap. Probably a Letterman fan forum has a thread about that. I know they've made calls as late as the day before a show before, so you wont know for a while.

good to hear,,,
will it make an impact on sales? (absolutely not!)... sure it mite get a few hundred sales more but it will be highly unlikely that it will impact it.
oasis did late night shows for HC, and it did bugger all.

Its not going to do shit sales wise bar a few units that wont impact anything noteworthy. The scenario you suggest is far more likely. The one thing it does is get the bands name known to those that may not know it.
