Amazing song, their greatest hits is really special. +1 Really great under-rated band, didn't know nothing about them until I heard an interview with early Who n Kinks producer Shel Talmy where he said that Creation guitarist Eddie Phillips was meant to have been The Who's 2nd guitarist. Another great under-rated band I've been listening to a lot lately is The Pretty Things, really dig their 1965 debut album, proper deep n heavy Blues/Soul...

I don't know how many people on this board are familiar with the 90's band Catherine Wheel, but they should have had the type of commercial success that Radiohead have. Three of their five albums (Ferment, Chrome and Adam & Eve are masterpieces IMO).

The Creation are pretty good. I got one of their albums though and it's not as solid as The Pretty Things' albums I've got, so I'd place them as being probably more underrated.

Anyone like Madness? I think they're quite underrated and they are fantastic. Been around for 30 years yet they produced their greatest album in 2007 with The Liberty of Norton Folgate. These guys, along with James, are another example that great albums can be produced when you're in your 40s. Their best of album is fantastic and always great fun to listen to. The sort of band who really enjoy themselves while not making a fool of themselves.
They are great live aswell, as Madstock proved - which is actually most associated with a certain support act named Morrissey who courted controversy with a Union Jack!!! Of course, it was all part of the act and was typical Morrissey but the narrow minded folk didn't see it that way. Wasn't controversial in the slightest.

Madness seems like a great band, but I only know Our House, their biggest hit.

I certainly agree with The Courteeners, they just missed the wave of bands from around 04-07 when Indie and Rock was ruling the charts and have suffered from poor sales.
They have just as much right to have a Top 10 single and arena tour as a lot of bands do, I'd highly recommend the 2nd record and the b-sides. Very underrated songwriter.
I'd also add Twisted Wheel and The Verve. The latter of them two could have gone on to bigger and better like Oasis did.

Modern Faces are decent. BRMC, The Coral + The Verve should have done better than they have done.

Happy Days is an excellent album, it's what initially got me into the band. If it was a couple of tracks shorter (maybe getting rid of Empty Head/My Exhibition towards the middle) I'd put it in the same league as the other three I mentioned. It's certainly much better than their final album.

Echobelly- their debut was superb from a-z that album fucking had it. The later stuff, People are expensive, gravity pulls and their current acoustic sessions are wonderful. Really great honest lyrics.
Polytechnic- their Down till Dawn lp fuckin rocks! Guitar and lyrics, the whole album is a totally lost gem. DEFINITELY worth a listen, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
The sugarcubes- ffs it's bjork, this chicks got the goods. And she's a total bad ass!

All mid 90's here:
Sponge (first two albums are worth a listen)
Superdrag (love it.)
Spacehog (toured with Oasis, but I didn't know that until recently, love the album 'Space is The Place')
Seven Mary Three (American Standard is a top album)
I just realized that all these bands start with the letter "S", so this message is brought to you by the letter "S"!
