Never Mind The Bollocks is a great album with lots of 'fuck you' songs on it. Just gets you off your arse, as Liam would say.
Also Johnny Rotten has attitude and a cool vocal style. Even cooler if you're not from the UK I think.

Cool vocal style??? Its the worst singing ive EVER heard... So attitude is all there is to being a front man... Wow i thought carrying a tune had something to do with it... They sound aweful.....complete garbage....sounds like they are all playing total different songs then singing jibberish over top of it...My garage band when I was 14 was ten times better...

Music and bands and albums can be very influental in lots of other ways than how perfect the music itself is.

I can appreciate what the Sex Pistols may have meant to people at the time, but I for one can't listen to them. It's very harsh on the ears.

Brillant in what way? In the fact they play out of tune guitars that are completely out of sink? Or the fact they have a bass player that isn't even plugged in pretending to play...Or maybe its the singer who screams jibberish and never hits one note?? What am I missing? What is even remotely good about this band? Besides attitude?

Even if one is to agree with your arguments about their music related skills, judging a band that way isn't only way to look at a music phenomena. Imho all the non-music things like attitude, social importance, social effect etc are perfectly valid points when talking about influences in music world. Those two sides are rarely entirely exclusive though. Music still often reflects the attitudes etc. Look at Richey Edwards from Manic Street Preachers, I think he wasn't plugged in on stage always either, was or not, he was hardly a guitar virtuoso. Still people considered him very influental and important figure in music world and the frontman of Manics really. If you're so interested, have a read here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_Pistols

I'm assuming the OP just doesn't get punk music. Sex Pistols were a huge part of influencing a new genre & generation to tell the man to go F himself. Liam's style is modeled after John Lennon meets John Lydon. I get what you're trying to say maybe it's not your cup of tea but you're coming off sounding like a musical snob by criticizing a punk band on musicianship lol

The Sex Pistols are fuckin great! I know they aren't the best 'musicians' in the world, I know a lot of people that think the same of Oasis. You've got to remember that just before the Sex Pistols came on the scene, the music scene was a fuckin mess, Rock music was dying on its arse, just about every rock band had gone down a very pretentious 'prog rock' route. The Pistols were the wake up call that the youth of the time were crying out for. 'Never Mind The Bollocks' is a classic album with some very era/genre defining tracks, and as well as that they were huge influences on bands like The Jam and The Clash, and of course Oasis for 'Definitely Maybe'.
I know they're not the most 'professional' or 'musically talented' of musicians, but I'd give ANYTHING for another band like that to come along and really wipe the floor with all this RnB/Electro Pop rubbish thats dominating the charts these days!
Oh yeah, I really recommend some of you guys watchin the film 'The Filth & The Fury', all on the story of the Pistols, as well as being a really cool and funny (and sad) film it might open some peoples eyes as to why the Pistols are as important as they are. If you like that then another one to watch is 'Westway To The World' all on The Clash. Really funny Rockumentary. Be wicked if Julien Temple did a similar sort of film on Oasis...

What is even remotely good about this band? Besides attitude? What they lacked in musicianship, they made up for in spirit. That was, after all, kind of the point... They were punk rock! They came along as a reaction to long-haired overblown 70's prog rock bands that sang about gnomes. Bottom line is that the Pistols had great pop songs and great lyrics.

Their social influence is beyond questioning. However if you take away the hype and social significance, which is what time has done, the music isn't that great IMO. V
DM still sounds great today to people even if you know nothing about it's place in musical history. I don't think Nevermind the Bullocks does though.
I'd rather list to the Clash.

If Liam's voice transitioned to Lydon's voice, we would all be bitching about it. I think that sums it all up.

V DM still sounds great today to people even if you know nothing about it's place in musical history. I don't think Nevermind the Bullocks does though. I'd rather list to the Clash. Completely disagree. The Clash were a great band, but at some point they got too pretentious and too full of themselves and it showed in the albums. London Calling is one of my fav albums of all time and I really like their self titled debut: The Clash UK or the US version which is also really good. But Combat Rock is an okay album, Give Em' Enough Rope is decent, and Sandinista is just bloated. The Sex Pistols on the other hand we're truly amazing. Sure they only made 1 album and you have more with The Clash, but that 1 albums is amazing. Songs like Pretty Vacant, Anarchy In The UK, Liar, Holidays In The Sun, and God Save The Queen are complete classics. I know you didn't do this, but anyone who questions the musicianship of a Punk band, shouldn't be listening to Punk. Because clearly they have missed the boat. Punk is about energy and is about "just havin' it", the musicianship is secondary. By some people's logic, the Velvet Underground is one of the worst bands to ever play. In terms of what an archetypal Punk Band should, it would be The Sex Pistols. The flew by the seat of their pants, they truly did not give a shit what anyone said about them, they did what they wanted, how they wanted to, they made amazing music, they turned the dial up to ten, they were raw, fresh, alive, and were trail blazers. They showed bands like the Clash how to be Punk. The Clash were a great band, but at some point they stopped being a Punk Band. So if we had to say which was the best Punk Band, it would be the Sex Pistols. Something that I do find amazing in this thread though, is the fact that a lot of the arguments that people are making about the Sex Pistols have also been used against Oasis. Though I know you're not making that argument GDForever.

If Liam's voice transitioned to Lydon's voice, we would all be bitching about it. I think that sums it all up. No it doesn't. Lydon's voice fits for the songs that The Sex Pistols made, just as Liam's fits for Oasis. By that logic, someone could say "if you switched Bono's voice with Liam, then we all would be bitching about it." It's a pretty flawed logic that you're using.
