Some friends of mine heard the album and didn't like it, but I will take a listen as soon as possible.

You're So Right is the fourth song o the album, just so everyone that is listening can do so in the right order.

And taken for a fool is the 5th one. The alt version of Undercover of darkness is just the SNL performance of the song

Great album this, and from a band supposedly going through the motions.

this album is pretty damn good. I don't like You're So Right & Metabolism but Machu Picchu, Under the Cover of Darkness, Gratisfaction, Life Is Simple In The Moonlight are all up there with some of the best strokes stuff and the other tracks are great. A lot better than First Impressions of the Earth its a little below Room On Fire but its still a great album. Hopefully it doesn't take them this long to do another. They won't recapture the magic of Is This It obviously but they can cement their legacy of being a great band if they can keep this up.

Indeed, for a band pegged as a one-trick pony, they've certainly found an interesting way to expand their palette while still sounding like The Strokes. One has to wonder where they'll go from here, there's so many different styles thrown into this album. Never thought I'd say that about The Strokes!

This album has it's moments to be fair but apart from maybe 3 great tracks...the rest is pretty ordinary...listened 4/5 times front to back without interruption and It just doesn't do it for me, I just get the feeling listening to it that Julian's heart just isn't in the band (was it really ever that much?) his solo effort was a much stronger album to me and one I can listen to fully without skipping a track.....and to be honest that goes for First Impressions, although it wasn't as strong as there 1st two it was still a good album. I think the time scale to make first impressions and angles was 11 years and for the quality of output It speaks volumes for the state of the band...........Everyone within hates Julian and the feeling is mutual. Overall I'm disappointed with what they have come up with after so long as I'm such a big fan.

This album has it's moments to be fair but apart from maybe 3 great tracks...the rest is pretty ordinary... Sod off, this album is class. No offence. Once again it's all about perception/opinion and for me the album albeit far from a crock of shit is not exceptional either, it starts off very promising then drifts off into Julian's inane rambling and melody-less music (Being 10 tracks I would say it's 60/40% in favour of quality), You can tell they had problems making this and that they ditched a producer cos the 2nd half needs work big time. It's like with views on Beady eye or Oasis you will get both ends of the spectrum......Over the top love or extreme negativity, then somewhere in the middle a balanced genuine view....and to be honest i think I fall into that category....I don't hate this album at all and as I said it has it's moments but it is far from being great to......and to anyone thinking this is a departure from there sound they are severely mistaken, It's a nailed on Strokes sounding album no doubt about it, just not upto the high standards set by there past body of work.

I wasn't expecting much from this album because of...
... the dodgy artwork ... the apparently strained recording sessions ... my feeling that the strokes should have called it a day several years ago because they don't seem to enjoy it any more ... my suspicion that they'd be following the Rivers Cuomo route of making inexplicably horrible production choices (re. Julian's awful solo album).
First Impressions had a few good tracks but lost its way. The First Impressions live shows were fucking great though!
Angles was suprisingly good, there were a few classic Strokes moments, and the production choices weren't as awful as I was expecting. Some of the tunes were great! And that bad ones weren't THAT bad.
Not as great as Is This It and Room on Fire, but will definately give this album a few more listens to see if it sticks.
A surprised 7/10 from me.

All of the songs are listenable and the production is really good apart from life is simple in the moonlight, which doesn't have the right balance in the vocals between the verse and the chorus.
Machu picchu, under cover of the darkness, taken for a fool, gratisfaction and life is simple in the moonlight are FANTASTIC songs. The other songs have some good moments, but they are not as good.
I think that julian's solo album is really good(out of the blue, left and right in the dark, the tourist,30minute boyfriend,11th dimention)and overall they are still one of my favourite bands,top5 to be exact.

I've tried and tried to "learn" me to like The Strokes, but I can't. (Heart In A Cage, Reptilia and Razorblade are allright, though). Really boring sound and pretty mediocre songs in my opinion. The new album is even more boring than their other albums. Hate the flat production.
Sorry, didn't mean to slag the band off. I understand that people like them. But they're not my cup of tea.

Finally listening now. I really like how it sounds very 80s, its kind of endearing and cheesy at the same time, but they're also turning it into something new. Macchu Picchu is good, and Under Cover is alright...some parts like the begining are amazing and some just feels rather forced. We'll see if I like it enough to buy it...
