Hi there,
Let's make a definitive list of the modern, retro-sounding bands. Let me be honest; I'm not too fond of modern rock bands. I prefer the old stuff from the 50s, 60s and 70s. But there are definitely some amazing bands making music today, no doubt about it. Here are some of the bands that I dig.
Beady Eye Kasabian Jet The Greenhornes Proud Mary Howard Eliott Payne The Redwalls Tame Impala The Blue Van

Didn't they start doing rap rock? I may be wrong, but it that is the case, then I am NOT interested. I fucking hate rap/hip hop.

The Black Keys ablum 'Brother' is awesome!
If you have time, you might have to check out 'Broken Glass Heroes' as well. Verry 60's & Beatles-esque!

The Moons. Great band with a very talented front man. and The Drytones. They're not a "rock" band, but brilliant. Saw them in a very old messy pub in London a couple of years ago, it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen.
and christian, I've seen The Black Keys 3 years ago and they're not a rap or hip-hop band. I wouldn't call Kasabian a retro-sounding band

...you might have to check out 'Broken Glass Heroes' as well. Verry 60's & Beatles-esque! I first heard Broken Glass Heroes sometime this last summer, and I really liked what I heard. The two songs you linked and some of their live session stuff on youtube are very Beatles/Dylan/Beach Boys. But did they have to make it so damn hard to buy their album!? I've really tried to find a store, online and physical, that sells their album. But nothing... Another retro sounding artist is M-Ward, not really rock-sounding, more folk/blues/rock, but really awesome, a overlooked, often forgotten genius. I remember Noel in an radio interview talking about how he heard an album of his in a shop or something and thought it was fuckin' fantastic. And he's truly magical on that guitar. One of my absolute favorite artists. Solo:With the group Monsters of Folk: Their self titled album is truly one of the best this side of the 00's Solo:

^ M. Ward is amazing. I was turned onto him by Noel in that same interview that you mentioned.

You can also say The Coral sound retro. They're definitely the legacy of The Beatles.

I would have to agree with whoever initially suggested the Keys as a band to check out. Brothers has a lot of good songs on it (definite 'meh' songs on it, but a lot of it is very good).

Foxboro Hot Tubs. I know Green Day's reputation around here is bad, but FHT (one of Billie Joe Armstrongs side projects) have some really good songs. Very Kinks-y. And thanks songbirdsally, the Broken Glass Heroes are great.

Rubber Factory and Attack & Release are my two favorites. I feel like Brothers was just too long. Long albums are fine if you have the material, but I don't think they had 15 good enough to make the cut. Hell, tracks 13-15 almost seem like superfluous bonus tracks: the real song to close the album is clearly I'm Not The One, in my opinion. Compare that to Attack & Release, which is what? Ten songs? 35 minutes? And there's not a weak track on there.

Oh, and if you like psychedelic pop stuff (more ornate, bigger arrangements) you need to check out Jellyfish. They only released two albums in the early '90s, but each one is a lost classic. Absolutely amazing songwriting, fantastic arrangements, and perfect harmonies. Can't say enough good about them. They got a lot of Beatles meets Queen comparisons, but they're definitely much more than that.

Totally forgotten about them, lol. Can't imagine that I've seen them supporting Oasis 2 years ago.

Totally forgotten about them...
Mando Diao
I was listening to "Bring 'em In" yesterday. Haven't listened to it for ages. Was great and still great album with mixture of RnR and Motown. Sadly I don't like their latest albums much.

I remember hearing "The King Is Half Undressed" from their 1st album on the radio. I was on my way to the bank on a work-related errand and I just had to have the CD that day. Great pop song! And "Russian Hill" is a quiet classic from their 2nd album. Back when alternative music was authentic and hearing songs like that was fun... :-)

^ Absolutely, Jellyfish were so amazing. Not a weak track on either album, in my opinion.
And I'd have to second Mando Diao, but I have to recommend Ode To Ochrasy and Hurricane Bar over Bring 'Em In. In my opinion, the band's history can be summed up like this: their songwriting got progressively better over the first three albums, they made a mediocre album (Never Seen The Light Of Day), then they made another mediocre album (Give Me Fire).
