Smith Westerns debut album was a lofi t rexy type of thing but their new album is just brilliant and quite old school.

Also, I'd recommend Dr. Dog. Just found out about them and been listening to the album Easy Beat. Kind of like a lo-fi, freewheeling Beatles. Right up my alley and you may like 'em as well.

Have you heard about this band from Ireland called The Plea - retro in way that Verve / U2 / Oasis / Bunnymen were retro - rock guitars, stadium songs, and above all - look really bloody cool.

Brother - try to recreate the Britpop sound
Free Peace - very Beatlesy
Pond - not well known, but they sound a bit like Tame Impala. I think they share a few members.

Hi there, Let's make a definitive list of the modern, retro-sounding bands. Let me be honest; I'm not too fond of modern rock bands. I prefer the old stuff from the 50s, 60s and 70s. But there are definitely some amazing bands making music today, no doubt about it. Here are some of the bands that I dig. Beady Eye Kasabian Jet The Greenhornes Proud Mary Howard Eliott Payne The Redwalls Tame Impala The Blue Van

Have been releasing albums since the late '80's. Best albums are "Sky and the Ocean (1997)", "Like Her (2005)" and "The Volebeats (2010)". Band member Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter Matthew Smith is also one of the guys behind Outrageous Cherry. The 60's-early 70's influences in their music are too many to mention, but you hear echoes of Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Beatles, Beach Boys, Flying Burrito Bros./Gram Parsons, Bakersfield Sound (Buck Owens, Merle Haggard), Bread among many others. Absolutely wonderful. IMHO in the running with Outrageous Cherry and The Greenhornes as America's finest band. Woods. They have a folky/pop experimental sound with the feel from the 60's. Their new album was a little disappointment, but the previous albums are pretty good.

Fire Tiger is a new band and their music sounds 80s with the twist of modern music. The vocalist has a husky voice that adds to the 80s feel. ENERGY by Fire Tiger Fire Tiger Website firetigermusic.com/
