West Ryder is easily the best non-Oasis album I have heard since Favourite Worst Nightmare, but it is still better than that. I know Arctic Monkeys are often cited as the 'next Oasis' but Kasabian are far closer to Oasis in terms of musical-style and their personalities/attitudes. The 1st album was immense, if a little one-dimensional, the 2nd album was poor with hindsight, only three good tracks really (Empire, Me Plus One and Doberman) and this latest album is a near masterpiece. In particular Vlad The Impaler, Secret Alphabets and Fast Fuse which is the best song on the album - fuckin' love that Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds breakdown kinda thing - and I really think that by the time Oasis have 'stepped aside' Kasabian will be the biggest band in Britain. And no one could take on that role better

They also are one of the few bands who look totally at home playing in stadiums...

Yea, I agree with how big of a leap Kasabian have a evolved as a Indie band to becoming one of the top bands in the UK. It pains me to say this but I feel that WRPLA is a more consistent, creative album than DOYS and even has better anthems. With that being said, Kasabian will never match the mainstream appeal Oasis will always have in England, but their definitley aiming to topple Oasis.

Kasabian are good, but they haven't got the tunes to be a huge international mainstream act like Oasis.

Kasabian are good, but they haven't got the tunes to be a huge international mainstream act like Oasis. hit the nail on the head. Kasabian will most likely be another Britain band that just doesn't have the world wide appeal. You guys can talk all you want but the truth is that most likely they will never hit it over here in the states or worldwide as hard as they have in their home land. Its sad cos i would love to hear them on the radio but they just aren't universal enough.

Couldnt agree with you any more than that. Kasabian are a solid rock band, but will never be able to follow Oasis.

Kasabian are ok. Just a modern day version of the Happy Mondays.
I prefer bands like Doves, Charlatans and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. I would say these are closer to Oasis.

Put it this way - bar Oasis tunes, I haven't heard a better song than Vlad The Impaler for a long long time. 2, maybe 3 years

they're good but not amazing. i haven't been able to listen to one of their entire albums cos some of their tunes are just not up to standard (haven't gotten a chance to listen to west ryder..)
in terms of being oasis' successors don't think so. maybe in terms of who will try and fill the void when oasis eventually retire but i don't think they're at oasis' level, at least yet.

I agree with the first post but I also agree with Cast.
Excellent 1st album, poor 2nd, very good 3rd. The next album will make or break them, but I think they just fall a bit short. I think they'll go on to be the next big British band (behind the big 3 of Oasis, Coldplay and U2) but international success is beyond them.

I believe Oasis (mainly Noel) have filled Serge and Tom's head with the idea that since they are touring and hanging out with their ideals, Kasabian must be a big deal. And not just them, but the public as well. Kasabian's a good band, but to think they'll reach Oasis status is too much wishful thinking.

But what people need to realize is that there won't be another Oasis. No band makes tunes like them. Sure maybe a band might get as big but there won't ever be another Oasis in terms of tunes, Vocals, ect.

As much as I like Kasabian, No.
I think that Kasabian have been hoisted onto Oasis shoulders but they havent learnt to use their wings and fly off yet. Im starting to loose the my confidence that theyll do it at all now.

Kasabian has made its place in my list of best bands and they're amazing, but they're just not mainstream enough to hit, say, America. Another thing is that comparing other bands with Oasis and looking for a substitute isn't going to work. Oasis are their own little genre, so to speak.

When I first got into Oasis back in '95, it was like being hit by a tidal wave. No band will ever do that for me again. Kasabian just doesn't have the tunes or for that matter, Liam Gallagher.

every band has to find its own path we do not need another oasis that is true. We do not! And if Oasis isn't the biggest band in the UK, then who cares. Maybe it will be Kasabian... I fucking love them and I think that they deserve it. But they are really only at the start of their career when you think about it.....

oasis will always be the biggest band in britain because they are the last great rock n roll band until another one comes along oasis will always have the edge over the arctic monkeys, kasabian etc despite those bands being gr8 as well
