i think modern day football is a bit too much focused on the offense. Quite the opposite. Teams that play with an attacking philosophy are few and far between. And even United, who have always played to score goals, have begun to rely on their defence in certain games; despite the talent we boast going forward.

Sorry, but Wenger's right - Football should be about entertainment and not just about results. If you're boring and eek out wins, why the fuck would I want to pay money for that? I want to be entertained,
And of course I'd rather win 1-0 than lose 4-3, who want's to lose? Really stupid comparison. But I'd rather win 4-3 than win 1-0 -- same goal difference, but I'd bet that more often than not the 4-3 game would be more entertaining and thrilling...

Football should be about entertainment and not just about results. No, it's about finding the right balance between the two. Which is why United are challenging for a second successive league and European double, and Arsenal haven't won anything in four seasons.

I won't argue with that. Defending can certainly be valuable to success, but I think teams like the current Barcelona side and the treble-winning United side have proven that your attack alone can win you football matches. I wouldn't say that defending is necessarily undervalued - a look at this year's PFA shortlist will tell you that - but that ultimately, a world-class forward line is of greater value than a world-class defence. Effectively, it's useless keeping clean sheets if you've got no-one to put the ball in the back of the net at the other end.

We'll be missing both our sidebacks, Alves (huge for us all season) and Abidal (decent defending, but not as valuable as Alves). Maybe Henry and INIESTA will be missing as well, but I think they'll recover just in time to get to Rome.
You devils have a sort of advantage given our 'casualties'.
Still, it's a final, so both teams will start the game extra-cautious, and I'm wondering how the old bastard's planning to defend on us.
To United fans/EPL followers: Does Ferguson set man to man defence or is it always zone? I have missed most of the big EPL games so I don't know shit about UNited's game, apart from great mid-long passes from yer meidfielders and Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez creating really fast up front. I know Scholes has a pretty good long shot, I fucking know.
But what keeps coming to mind is is he going to specifically put a man or two on Messi, Xavi or Iniesta?

But what keeps coming to mind is is he going to specifically put a man or two on Messi, Xavi or Iniesta? I'd expect Rooney to operate down the left-hand side, providing cover for Patrice Evra. I doubt you'll see man-to-man marking; instead I think it'll be Park, Carrick and Anderson doing their best to suffocate Barcelona in midfield, and get forward in support of Ronaldo and Berbatov (probably) when they can. I'd predict United's starting formation will look something like this: Van Der Sar
O'Shea | Ferdinand | Vidic | Evra
Park | Carrick | Anderson
Ronaldo | Berbatov | Rooney

If thats the team, then Henry is Barca's key man. He should roast O'Shea all night long.

Barca: I'd go Valdes Caceres Pique Puyol Sylvinho Iniesta Toure Xavi Messi Etoo Henry
Now the back 4 will be dodgy but hopefully Barcas ball retention will keep mistakes at a minimum. I'm glad Dani Alves isn't playing because at least now Barca have an extra defender, however Caceres can make howlers, Puyols postioning can be VERY suspect, Pique can be exposed with pace, and sylvinho because of his age is average (although he did have a good goal a while back). Furthermore they haven't played as a unit and I fear the worst. The midfield is exceptional, whereas the front three I worry.
Messi while being God, must stay wide and not drift in unless there is some degree of space. Etoo I'm really worried about, got a goal at the weekend but his striking has been woeful, if he gets a chance he WON'T take it. Henry slows down the game when he gets the ball but hopefully being against O'shea he will have some joy
Utd I think Big Ed Sheasy Vida Rio Evra Anderson Carrick Scholes Park Ronaldo Rooney
The front six is very debatable but I fancy Ronaldo will be the lone striker with Rooney and Park and either flank. Most times they WILL be part of a 5 midfield. The midfield picks itself, although we may giggs for scholes (improbable).
Despite this selection I'd be more worried from a Barca POV if Berbatov was starting (and indeed Tevez, but I think his antics will come back to haunt him).
It looks though as if Fergies cautiouness in selection will play into Barca's hands.
Possible Scenarios
Barca score first-utd come after them----it goes either way Utd score first---------Utd win

I'd like Pep to go with Cáceres for centre or sideback, but he's barely played this season, so I don't think that'll happen. I think he'll definitely go:
Valdés Puyol Touré Piqué Keita
Busquets Xavi Iniesta Messi <----> Eto'o Henry
If the team gets stuck up front then Messi will play as a false centre-forward, like he did against Madrid, creating from the midfield with Xavi and Iniesta. I don't like Touré as a centre-back, he's not too bad, but he's so much better as a defensive midfielder. Pep seems to like him here though, so that'll be the squad I think.
I'm hoping Xavi and Iniesta, or even Messi, send lots of long balls to Henry and punish O'Shea's lack of speed.
Can't wait anymore!!!
