NOEL: "YOU PICK UP A GUITAR, RIP A FEW PEOPLE'S TUNES OFF, SWAP THEM AROUND A BIT, GET YOUR BROTHER IN THE BAND, PUNCH HIS HEAD IN EVERY NOW AND AGAIN, AND IT SELLS"
Intro, lyrics, riffs, outros etc. some less obvious than others. all there if you listen carefully. noel has stated many times he is suprised he's not been sued more and openly admits to using other peoples stuff.
Came about by accident, doing a remix for UNKLE - finished the remix early. Found drum loop off Jimi Hendrix record - looped it up and wrote music over it. Sampled quotes and put it in track as a joke - never intended to use it, but people they played it went "mental" over it. Had to take Hendrix drum loop out as Hendrix estate changed hands and they blocked all uses of samples. Got Alan White to recreate loop. Got in backing singers, tarted it up a bit. Done. (Noel - Wheeler End interview #2 - 99)
Half The World Away Burt Bacharach - This Guy's In Love With You - uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fUq0St_1X0s Inspired by chords from This Guy's In Love With You. Dave Bachelor showed Noel how to play it on guirar.
Noel: "It sounds exactly the same. I'm surprised he hasn't sued me yet."

How dare you!!!!!!
Dont you know they are the greatest band ever ever ever!!! Better than the Beatles!!!11!!!
You're just a h8r!!!11!!
Everyone knows it was T-Rex stole the rift from Cigarettes and Alcohol anyway.
(This thread should be bookmarked and posted everytime some numpty starts a "If you don't think they're the greatest ever then fuck off" thread. I.e. every week)
I don't get the Live Forever one, the Wonderwall one, The Turning, however, Waiting for the Rapture and Columbia seem very obvious, as does the Supersonic-My Sweet Lord connection...
Hmm.. I'm not having most of them. Hardly any of those are close enough to be rip offs.
By the way, just thought I'd add:
Hello was credited "Gallagher/Gary Glitter/Mike Leander." Step Out was credited "Gallagher/Wonder/Cosby/Moy." Neil Innes was also credited for "Whatever." Book of Rules rips off those same lyrics from R. L. Sharpe's poem "A Bag of Tools." George Harrison was sued for 'borrowing' My Sweet Lord from someone else.
I think "ripping off" or that unconcioulsy borrowing without noticing is not a bad thing at all in noel´s case. I think it´s part of the genius of it and the genius that noel represents - he´s kinda like hip-hop dj and he´s sampling those bits and pieces (unconsciously, paying a homage kinda-way). Welcome to the 90´s. I thought that this minor sampling-aspect always was a part of the oasis-mystique and brand anyways, and that´s actually cool.
I don´t think this is "ripp-off" in a conscious-way and certainly i don´t think it in a negative way or that they are stealing and don´t deserve to be up there with their version of music. (And the so-called "ripp-offs" are not that major either even if you want to think them from a negative perspective.)
Hardly any of those are close enough to be rip offs.
while the same time agreed with this. thank you very much.
And most of those are the kind that you only here the similarities if someone told you there was and you were intentionally looking to hear them, and even then it would only be so little bit that it´s ridiculous to say it´s a rip-off or hardly an inspiration.
Nice compilation, I was curious too since people always mention these songs. Some of them I really REALLY cannot find the similarity though, no matter how hard I tried.
FREE IPOD-- sign up, complete an offer, get five other people to complete an offer through your link, get an ipod. The company makes enough money from the advertisors that they are able to fund an ipod for you. woo
that is a great list you put together. I've bookmarked that one for future reference. Some of them are pretty obvious but it's still fun to think about the ones that don't really match.
LOL @ those getting upset over bringing this up ;D
While a few a blatantly obvious, most of those are stretches holding only a few bits of the melody or riff in common. I don't think it's fair to count Fuckin' In The Bushes and Go Let It Out though, considering drum looping is such a common practice.
And, I have to say, never heard the similarity between No Fun and Hung In A Bad Place! Best place to rip off a riff if any, nice one Gem!
Noel has said that Shakermaker was taken from Flying by the Beatles.
I think he's lying though
it definitely is from that 1970s coke commercial. it's almost the exact same song.
Especially considering they used to sing "I'd like to teach the world to sing In perfect harmony I'd like to buy the world a Coke And keep it company..." I'd say you would be correct.
I've posted this a few times before, but it's appropriate to the topic. The Real People's song "Feel the Pain" (released on Marshmellow Lane in '92) contains the chorus "Don't go away / say that you'll stay / forever and a day."
There's no Youtube link and can't post the song, obviously, so if you're interested anyway, pm me, I guess. It's a great song to have anyway!

I bought a snow globe this year that plays that song. My little brother who wasn't aware of the Coke-Oasis fiasco came in one day and asked me how I found a snow globe that plays "Shakermaker". He thought Coke ripped off Oasis ;D
LOL - for the record I'm not offended at all. Noel and Oasis have given me years of amazing music to listen to - I don't give a shi*t where it came from! I just honestly don't hear any comparison between Wonderwall and that Cure song.
Every songwriter/band/singer borrow melody/lyrics, something from someone else's music. Some of them are bollocks, but some of them are made to create the original great tunes.

themasterplanet: A Northern Soul by The Verve! My second favourite album by them. I love the atmosphere of it, it’s very dreamy and melancholic and dark. It holds many memories for me and I think that’s partly responsible for why I love it so much.

Bring It On Dan: I have so much shit on an old hard drive somewhere but I just cannot find it. Nothing 'out there' but probably 200 gigs or so. I can't remember the name of the site that had all the gigs listed and sources for loads of gigs next to it? I remember RKID 003.
