Easy, isn't it? I think I'll vote for Gem, in my opinion, he is a better guitarrist and he has done great songs for Oasis in the last years.

gotta be Gem. I love Bonehead, but all he could do was play barre chords. Gem's a great guitarist and musician + he writes great songs. And that's something Bonehead could never do

Gem but I love watching both play. Bonehead had this nice little arm motion. Gem is just smooth. Plus Gem has written some pretty good tunes Eyeball Tickler, HIABP, TBWTL

Gem is technically the better musician but I got into the band during the MG days so my mental image of the band will always have Bonehead and Guigsy.

The weird thing is that now Gem has been a part of the band longer than Bonehead was. It feels like yesterday that we were all shocked at the news that Bonehead was sacked... time flies.

Bonehead's barred chords was the foundation of that wall of noise sound of Oasis' early years...with Gem the band lost the wall of noise sound.

Bonehead's barred chords was the foundation of that wall of noise sound of Oasis' early years...with Gem the band lost the wall of noise sound. They're just barred chords. I can do them, Gem can do them, Noel can do them, in fact, just about anybody who's been playing guitar for a year can. I never understood how they made bonehead special. Gem just plays better. This whole 'wall of sound' argument just seems like old fans trying to justify the nonsensical argument that boneheads playing was better or suited the band better. The band got 100x better(at least musically, ignoring song quality) when Gem and Andy joined.

Can we just combine them into a single creation. The BoneGem.

You say that as if bonehead is obviously superior. Bonehead seems like a nice enough guy, but he has nothing on Gem as a guitarist, songwriter, or musician for that matter. I can't possibly see how you've made the assessment that bonehead was in anyway superior. I think you're pretty spot on most of the time, but you've snoozed on this one.

Very much in the bonehead camp. I get that Gem is a far superior player but as Liam says Oasis was never about being the best players technically, it was about having a certain spirit and attitude.
I guess it depends on what your are really asking here. If it about who is the better musician then Gem without doubt, if its who was best in Oasis then I'd pick Bonehead.

Bonehead. It’s not even a debate.
Gem contributed in making Oasis boring, wrote shit songs and sanitised their sound. Couldn’t care less if his technique was better, it was all passionless and stale. Bonehead had the Manc working class ethos, had the swagger and the sound. Gem tried to use his guitar as a paintbrush, Bonehead used his as a battering ram.
I suspect if this poll was taken today with the time and distance since the band split instead of 2008, then Bonehead would smash this poll.

The results of the poll are even embarrassing for back then. Bonehead was crucial to their signature sound. Gem is an elite guitarist but never had an noteworthy creative imprint that resonated for their legacy.

Yeah, barred chords are so distinct and creative. Way more creative than an incredible session guitarist who has written great songs. Let's just face it Oasis sounded 100 times better with Gem, Andy, and Chris. Tony could barely drum, boneheads skills were incredibly basic, and Guigsy basically just played the first string(except for a few exceptions). Once Noel had the recognition and money to get better musicians, he did. End of story.

But even if I did, that would be because of Liams voice. Not because of boneheads(as Liam would say) 'wank' guitar playing.
