I really like RHCP too so was just wondering if he ever mentioned if he liked them or not. I remember seeing their drummer at the Brits getting into C&A but I never heard Noel talk about them

on the interview with Gonzo a couple of weeks back, Andy Bell was asked if he bases his bass playing style on any particular bass player, he mentioned a few names and then scoffed the idea that he played like Flea from RHCP.
Noel kinda heard the conversation and said 'ahh they are alright'

^^It was Gem who said that. Noel was saying when recording the album he played guitar gem played bass and andy played keyboard or whatever. Zane asked gem who his favorite bass players were and he lists them off' and Zane says then ''Flea'' and gem replyed ''No, That band needs a bass player'' so gem obviously don't think much of them but Noel said who are you on about and gem says the chilli peppers and Noel said ''Ahh there alright''
Didn't seem like he thought much of them aswell.

I think Noel doesn't mind them that much but they aren't like the greatest band in the world. Their last album was complete shite though

i know for a fact that at the very least Noel respects them and probably also think they're "pretty good" or that they have been throughout their career.
I've heard Noel say a couple of times, and i will quote here : "Well, there's us(oasis), U2 , the chilli peppers and that's it mate..."

Yeah it had a very moments but their was just too much filler for me. Pick out the best tracks and make a solid single disk now that would be top. By The Way might be my favorite album from them which is strange its very close between that and Blood Sex Sugar and Magik

They're a great band no doubt about that but their style and everything is not for me. A lil' bit too over the top. In saying that, some of their songs are really good. I remember loving the album"Californiacation" It was funny seeing their drummer dancing away to Oasis at the brits. He seemed to be really digging them.

That's almost high praise for Noel though isn't it?, given that if he doesn't like a band (The Kaiser Queefs / Keane / Amy Crackhouse), he can obliterate them in 2 seconds flat with a hilarious withering, sarcastic quote ("a destitute horse"), unless he just didn't expect RHCP to come up in coversation and didn't have one prepared for them.

Yea they like the Chili's - they were being ironic
I've been getting quite into the Chilli's recently. Read Anthony Keidis's autobiography - A seriously good book! One of the best music book's i've read.

Lol I went through a 2-3 month phase a year or two ago where I pretty much only listened to the Chili Peppers. Their albums all contain some fantastic songs... but there's always quite a bit of filler on it as well.
They're all fantastic musicians (I think itd be hard to argue that anyone in Oasis is a better musician than Flea or John), and Anthony's got a pretty cool voice and knows how to write good melodies for the most part.
Their lyrics, however, are utterly dreadful for the most part. If ever a band could have benefitted from better lyrics, its the Chili Peppers. Funny thing is that Under the Bridge has some of the best lyrics I've ever heard, but everything before then and since then has been, for the most part, pretty shitty lyricwise.

hey have you ever heard noel's lyrics? they're astonishing. ly bad. Hey they're a lot better than the chilli's rambling nonsense lyrics anyway. Noel has written some outstanding lyrics. Some of his best: Rock 'n' Roll Star Live Forever Cigarettes & Alcohol The Masterplan Don't Look Back In Anger Don't Go Away Who Feels Love? Gas Panic! Where Did It All Go Wrong? The Importance Of Being Idle

I think it was a tolerating dismissal, to be honest. When he's being effusive then it's obvious: Kasabian, Coldplay, the Verve, Travis (back in the day).

GTood point, and very true, the arrangement of the album version is a defnite Five To One rip-off. PYMWYMI is a total nick from Roadhouse Blues as well.
