A Name is a name. The Beatles put out music and it was reviewd just as any other artists is. The Beatles didnt release an album and everyone just love it becasue it was The Beatles. It was good music, thats what kept them going. THATS why they are the biggest act in this worlds history. Give credit where it is do That was then but people many people cling to them now because of the name. I'm not saying they're bad, or denying their presence in the music world, but I'm just saying that people shouldn't be forced to accept them as the greatest of all time just because fanboys say so.

The beatles were and still are the most important rock and roll band ever....hands down. I'm sorry, you can talk about the stones, zep, the who....and while they are all great, historic bands....they will never be the beatles.
that being said, for me personally...i love the beatles, always have since I was a kid.....BUT OASIS IS MY FAVORITE BAND.

Most important and influential perhaps, but not the best.

The Beatles greatest hits 1976-1970 compilation is a brilliant album, but all the less famous songs are pretty mediocre at best. A shame really, that they split just when they began to be interesting. The Beatles are a great band, but also one of the most overrated bands of all time.

I think the idea that there'd be no Oasis without the beatles sounds great but it's utter bs in reality. Their influence just would have come from the other 2 dozen or so bands they listened to/adored....just like the Beatles. Love that band to death, but they're hardly infallable. Perhaps their prodigous output is their best calling card...simply so much material that the throwaway tracks (yes, they had their fair share) are so often overlooked (rocky raccoon anyone?).
Regardless, I wouldn't even compare these 2 records. Though virtually impossible, I would love to give both albums to 100 people who haven't heard either (or know of the Beatles or Oasis) and see where they fall. Like usual, I think "music people" would be surprised by the results...and then immediately dismiss them of course, because one came before the other.
yeah, sure.

Beatles are the most important band but they aren't my favorite. I love Oasis a lot more and i fucking love the beatles (in my top 3 bands) but Noel has written more songs that just click with me than John/Paul/George or Ringo. Liam in my mind is the best rock n roll singer of all time. the beatles may be a better band but Oasis just clicks with me.

I love the Beatles songs just as much as the next person, but thats not the real reason I respect the band so much. Any band with some sort of songwriting talent can write songs, but the Beatles went beyond that.
Help was released in August of 1965 Abbey Road was released in September of 1969 This is a span of 4 years, 1 month.
In these 4 years and 1 month... The Beatles a. Released 6 timeless albums (Help, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, The White Album, Abbey Road), with one of them being a double album b. Released an EP (Magical Mystery Tour) and contributed a few songs to a soundtrack (Yellow Submarine) c. Released 9 classic singles that featured non-album tracks as both the A side and the B side. d. Recorded Let It Be, although didnt release it until later
No band before then and since then have been able to come close to that kind of output. To Oasis' credit... they did release their first 3 albums (all of which are classics) and numerous album-quality Bsides from August of 1994 to August of 1997... but since then... theyve taken it pretty slow.
And that is why, unless Oasis starts releasing great albums every year for the next few years, they stand no chance of matching The Beatles' greatness.

This is an amazing thread, hahaha! "Deathofyerego" is a fuckin' genius, hahaha! What IS HE ON ABOUT? Well, I think... the way I understood the question: is it possible DOYS would be for Oasis the kind of departure Rubber Soul was for The Beatles? And my answer is: it's not impossible. Maybe the next Oasis album is their "Revolver"... They've freed themselves from the dadrock shackles with this one... with the next one, everything's possible!

Calling The Beatles over-rated is the most absurd thing a music person could hear

The idea that some of you are talking about is correct. Often times people associate too much. It does happen a lot. Most commonly if people have a preconceived notion of something being "good" or they want it to be so, their mind will make it that way (like many here with Oasis). This idea is very valid and accurate so you are not necessarily wrong in using it when talking about the Beatles. But on the same note, I have news for you, the Beatles have that "greatness" attachment for good f*cking reason. They are the greatest band of all time and almost everything they touched is incredible. Bottom line is this thread is outrageous and stupid, I love Dig Out Your Soul as much as the next guy, but I absolutely love Rubber Soul and the two should not be mentioned together or put on some pedistal anywhere near one another. Every Oasis song every written put together doesn't touch In My Life. Just ask Gem

the real question is, if oasis existed in the 60s and were only mildly inspired by the beatles what would they have become? the two bands grew up and existed in two different eras.. the beatles pushing the boundaries of music and all this was because they were the first ones there and they lived in the golden era of the student and acid movement. their songs are truly amazing and should be an inspiration to all, but they did rise on the wave of a cultural movement. Oasis did the same thing, just not on one that was as creative in the arts. Britpop was more about having a 4 year party .. and to be frank, how do we know that the beatles would not have fallen to the same fate as oasis? falling into a period of artistic stagnation?

I'll tell you what, if Rubber Soul was by Oasis, and Dig out Your Soul was by The Beatles, you Beatle fans would be sticking up for Dig out your soul and you know it. It'd probably be hailed as the best record ever.

If Oasis was the maker of Rubber Soul, Rubber Sould would be Oasis' best album ever.
I personally think Oasis is one of the greatest bands of all time, but thats not an opinion many music critics share now is it
