A killer track at the end of the album that you *look forward to* while listening. Every great album needs a killer last or second-last song.
Definitely Maybe had 'Slide Away'.
Morning Glory had 'Champagen Supernova'.
Sgt. Peppers had 'A Day In The Life'.
The Queen Is Dead had 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out'.
The Stone Roses had 'I Am The Resurrection'.
Appetite For Destruction had 'Rocket Queen'
And on and on and on. Almost all the true classics have a monster track that closes the album (or is the second last song before a slow closer like 'Soldier On').
That's what's missing from DOYS. After Falling Down, it's just 15 minutes of meh. A hard-rocking epic version of 'Record machine' would have done quite nicely as track 10. Damn shame.

I believe Boy With The Blues was intended to fill this role till they had the argument about it. One or two big songs at the back end of the album and it could've been as good as DM and WTSMG. Still a great album though, easily the third best in the catalogue.

Its still a great album, however it does tail off at the end of the album. They should have saved one of the better songs and replaced it with TNOR

Noel and Liam had a disagreement about the ending of BWTB I think.

I like it how it ends, it's feels like a natural progression. Starting from TBWTL the album sets itself into a nice groove and then finally disappears with the ending of Solider On. Like a dream you can't really reach.

I do agree with this actually. I wouldn't replace any of the tracks, but another classic track, would have lifted this album through the roof. But i'm not complaining.

Soldier on is an amazing ending ....its like a march and the soldier on bit how it fades and then comes back is genius.....give it time, at first I was unsure, but now I could listen on a loop for hours ;D

Robohump is spot on kids, tracks 8-11 don't really do the album justice. They're good enough individually as albums tracks, but 4 average tracks in a row to end the album is not good enough.

Record machine with maybe Liams vocals and great production would have totally sealed this album, knowing Noel he will end up sticking it on a b-side

I don't think the tracks need to be replaced. Their order just need to be rearranged. Slot the bad songs between the better songs.
Another album that suffers from this problem is U2's Joshua Tree. All the best songs are placed at the start, so after With or Without You, the album dies off and becomes very boring, just to be saved by Exit near the end.

If I have one gripe with the album it's that it doesn't end with something huge. That's not to say I don't like the closing tracks, and every album doesn't have to end with a big closer, but I do think albums can feel stronger if there is something major to finish them off. Shit, I think I might be in the first steps of dementia, I think I have one of the symptoms: memory loss, disorientation, personality changes, agreeing with Robohump.

I guess the thing is that if put any other song in the end of the album, Soldier On would just disappear... if it wasen't the closing track it would be a very weak song, and if i came after a proper version of RM it would as easilly be forgotten....

Agree Eventhough Soldier On is decent, you expect something grand as a closer! Like Knights of Cydonia on Black Holes and Revelations ;D

Yea I agree, its pretty vital for a great album to have one of the best tracks as its last or 2nd to last song. Only exceptions I can really think of would be The White Album and Rubber Soul.
That's one of my biggest gripes about HC actually. Better Man and BOADC just dont seem like tracks you wanna end an album with.....

Can you imagine how fucking EPIC this album would have been with this version of 'Stop The Clocks' as track 10???
Throw in a hard and soaring guitar solo near the end of the song as this album stomps on Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory as my new favorite Oasis album.
It's always going to bother me knowing how close they came to perfection with this album.

Throw in a hard and soaring guitar solo near the end of the song as this album stomps on Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory as my new favorite Oasis album. It's always going to bother me knowing how close they came to perfection with this album. I think I might have preferred RM to STC... but nevertheless... the fact that neither of em were included still upsets me a bit Out of the 11 songs on the album... I consider 4 of them to be so-so songs (Waiting for the Rapture, High Horse Lady, Aint Got Nothing, and Nature of Reality) These tracks arent necessarily bad... but for almost 40% of the album to consist of so-so songs isnt a very good percentage imo. Luckily, the other 7 tracks are great, making the album satisfactory as an Oasis fan, and definately better than the last 2 or 3. However, if they added STC and/or RM in place of one of the weaker tracks... it could have been epic. I have a feeling The Boy W/ the Blues is gonna be a classic Oasis tune as well... and another bside that shits on a good percentage of the album tracks.... I dont wanna complain because I truly do thoroughly enjoy DOYS. However... I just feel like it could have been my favorite Oasis album if the band had made better song choices.

Yeah, you right. The 2 last songs might be the worst ones. But I think that the biggest thing DOYS is missing is highlights... All songs are quiet rockin' (except track 5). They all got grooves and great rocking drums but they are being repeated all the time - A-->B-->A-->B. I expected more guitar solos and more high points like the chorus of Supersonic who comes after a great verse and great bridge....
I'm pretty disappointed of those missing high points.
