I had a similar conversation regarding Ronaldo with a friend last night. What peturbs me is most is that he's held in such disregard by a large fraternity of the United support, based solely on his actions over the summer. Now I'm not saying that I endorse what he did, but let me put it into perspective.
George Best - unequivocably a United legend. There's not a United (nay, football) fan I've met who would argue otherwise. And yet Best was a man who spent a large portion of his United career indulging in some very questionable off-the-field activities - namely misogyny, alcoholism, and clubbing. Far from being a model professional, his behaviour brought the club into disrepute on a number of occasions, and affected his performance on the pitch.
Ronaldo has, by contrast, merely re-iterated a desire to play for Real Madrid; a desire which he has harboured since childhood, and yet - following a discussion with Alex Ferguson - one which he dropped, no questions asked, without the merest hint of regret or disillusionment. His performances on the pitch simply cannot be called into question, and as long as he continues to exhibit the proper effort and dedication to Manchester United I, for one, will have nothing but good to say about the lad. Especially now that he's stated his intention to do precisely that.
And for the record, I often find myself exasperated by his prancing and preening. He's toned it down a fair whack, but - as is the case with most Meditteranean players - it's a facet of his game that we're never going to be able to eradicate entirely.
Besides, you've got one or two divers yourself. Look no further than Steven Gerrard. He's certainly guilty of having conned a few referees over the years.

Oh please! Ronaldo could have said officially that he wants to move to Real Madrid as it was his dream and that he felt that he needed a new challenge after winning everything with Man Utd that he could win. If he had done that at the start then few Man Utd fans would begrudge him for following his dream. Gareth Barry has said a similar thing about wanting to go to Liverpool, and few Villa fans resent him for it.
But no.. Ronaldo has to make a huge drama. One minute he is off to Madrid, then he's staying. He refuses to speak to Ferguson , clearly disrespecting the man who stuck by him after WC 2006, has an unspectacular tournament, then says "I don't know about my future". He goes off to LA, shags a few local birds, backs Sepp Blatter's bigoted views and then eventually comes back at the start of August saying that he will stay, when Real Madrid have become fed-up themselves.
He just loves being centre of attention. Why not chat with Ferguson soon after Euro 2008? He created a whole media circus around himself which is what he wanted whilst messing your fans around. If Torres did that to Liverpool most fans would be furious with him. For the record, I believe he should have said at the start that he would like to leave next year, as there is no doubt that he owes Man Utd at least one more year for sticking by him when the entire nation wanted to gut him.

Well, I'm taking the high road. He'll have enough people bashing him next season without us United fans getting on his back. Don't get me wrong - I don't like the way he conducted himself, and it all should have been dealt with much earlier (although, to a lesser extent, that was also down to Fergie and David Gill's dithering), but he's crucial to our chances of success and for that reason alone I'll be giving him my full support. For the greater good.
Didn't Gareth Barry get booed at Walsall about three weeks ago?

Fuck's sake. On the plus side, it's unlikely we'll play that badly again between now and the end of the season.

It's not so much the scoreline that bothers me as the performance. We just rolled over and let Liverpool hustle us out of the game today. Credit to them for taking the initiative, but we were fucking all over the place once we conceded the first. Thanks a lot, Edwin. Time for Ben Foster to start a few games, methinks.

UNLUCKY UNITED!
In fairness we were outstanding in the second half. Probably the best we've played in months and ye were poor. Probably the worst ye played in months. All in all it was a great game of football.
Alonso and Mascherano were immense.

Probably not, actually. I'd have been pleased, no question. But there's a fucking long way to go yet and I'm just trying to put a bad result into perspective.

Well done Liverpool. We've never taken the game to the Mancs like that in years. Perhaps we should leave out Gerrard and Torres every time we play Man Utd. We had a little luck(Brown OG), but we deserve it as we've had some horrible luck in this fixture over the past few years.
C'mon Chelsea, take another three points off Man Utd next week!

C'mon Chelsea, take another three points off Man Utd next week! Not to burst your bubble, pal, but if you were genuine title contenders you'd probably be better off having us take the three points from them, in order for your side to extend it's lead - or at least remain - at the top of the table.

my post dissapear??
suppose one loss in 7 seasons isn't too bad. Didn't see the game but we have to up it of what I heard. Best to to do is hammer Villareal then carry it on and take the rent boys home record off them.

Aww you poor bitter Man Utd fan, You need a hug from someone. I know that the title race will be Chelsea v Man Utd eventually because we are a few players and non-idiotic owners short. All Liverpool fans want from this season is a sustained title challenge. As a Liverpool fan, I'd much rather see Chelsea beat Man Utd anyday. Thats the way the rivalry is. Dont tell me that a Man Utd fan would ever dare of wishing Liverpool success. You guys are loving the fact that we arent anywhere near the title and havent been for years, its just the hatred between both teams that overides almost anything.

We deserved to win. If can't win the league, I hope Chelsea win it and I think they will.
