NO WAY!!!!!!!! they don't write EPIC songs! i doubt anyone would ever be able to write such epics like Noel did in the years 1994-1997 so dont compare those amateurs to Oasis

Also, look at them now? You hear fuck all about them when they don't have an album out. Can you say that about Oasis during the mid 90s? In 1996, 1998, and even 1999 Oasis were MASSIVE, and all 4 years listed there they didn't release an album.
No one is talking about the Arctic Monkeys right now, rendering them pretty much irrelevant. What a ludicrous thread.
And I agree with Oasis 1409....they havent written one epic song. Where's their Live Forever? Their Slide Away? Their Don't Look Back in Anger? Their Wonderwall.....They have not provided one song to define the generation/the decade.
Great lyrics, but hollow sound, and talk about all songs sounding the same!
Arctic Monkeys the new Oasis? Nope. Not musically, nor culturally. If a band is gonna be as good, important, and last longing as Oasis have been, it's not the Arctic Monkeys nor any current band. We'll still waiting for THAT band. Move on.

They are both from England. That is about ALL these two bands have in common. I am so f*cking sick and tired of these comparisons over the past few years. People are just reaching for things to compare them on and in reality all there is to are demographics. They sound nothing alike, their demeanor is nothing close to similar, their musical voice (what they write about) is absolutely not similar. I have to question, what is so similar about these bands? I see next to nothing.

Arctic Monkeys and The Libertines suck. Arctic Monkeys especially as they can't write a melody to save themselves.

To play devil's advocate: you could say the opposite about both the arctics and libs vs oasis regarding lyrics: oasis can't write lyrics to save their lives. since when is melody all that makes a song? that's pretty shallow. a good melody is what makes your mother tap her foot and hum along while doing the dishes.

The Artic Monkey's are everything Oasis could have been.
If by 1997 Noel still had even an ounce of Alex Turner's lyrical ability, intelligence and savvy, the third Oasis album would have made them unstoppable.
Instead, we got Be Here Now.

Better Be Here Now than Favourite Worst Nightmare. Lyrical genius aside that album is shite

Well if their second album is anything to go by it won't be worth buying.

I was really hoping Jet was going to be the new Oasis. But they have taken so long in between records. 3 years in between each.

If we had to point at someone as an "Oasis" of this generation it probably would be the Arctic Donkeys. Who else writes songs that relate to youth these days? It doesn't mean they're any good though it's just means they're the best contender.

Alex Turner is a little legend he's written three quality albums in as many years and another on the way. Theres no one who can touch him at the moment he's so prolific, I agree with Noel a though he does seem a bit boring. But what a talent he is. I think this might be the last Arctic Monkeys album, before he does a Weller and moves on to something else.
A good song doesn't have to 'epic' it just has to grab you one way or the other...by the bollocks or by the hand. Alex Turners songs are more thought out than Noels but I'm not having that there not as good...I think your bound to see a more noticeable progression with his music than with Noels.
