Although not worthy of being fastest selling debut- AM's first album was a classic and could possibly be compared to Def Maybe, but their second album was a disaster. They need to redeem themselves! Going to have to majorly disagree there, the 2nd album is fantastic, although maybe not better than the first, it has a lot more depth and variety to it.. How an album with Brianstorm, Teddy Picker, Do Me A Favour, This House is a Circus, Old Yellow Bricks and 505 can be seen as a disaster I'll never know!! those songs are brilliant, the rest are pretty good too

I still am standing by what I said earlier. Nobody my age listens to U2, Springsteen, and any other old guys. Jay Z is the only exception. Arctic monkeys aren't promoted by the media at all here in the states. It's all word of mouth. People know the Arctic Monkeys because it is some of the best indie music out there. But Notorious has a good point in that it has to be the right time for a band to hit it huge. Regardless, the Arctic Monkeys have great music that relates to me. Even if they were a small band playing at bars every night I would still think they were amazing.

When the Arctics write songs like:
Don't Look Back In Anger Champagne Supernova The Masterplan Live Forever Slide Away
Then they can be even mentioned in the same breath as Oasis, music for students, flavour of the month.

THe arctic monkeys are indeed the Oasis of our generation (albeit to a lesser degree). The enemy are posers. Enough said The enemy are not posers, they seem to have true passion about what they do, FANTASTIC band anyway Arctic monkeys are also amazing IMO, bands like this and kasabian are what seem to be keeping modern music alive, as quite alot of recent stuff is shocking MGMT for example utter sheeeeeeeeite however, they'll never be the Oasis of there time no one will be really.. until a band comes along and bursts onto the scene with something like Supersonic, ill stick to what i just said

Why would the arctic monkeys ever write music like that? The Arctic Monkeys don't write Brit-pop songs.

i think kings of leon are closer to oasis than arctic monkeys.
and mgmt are really good. listen to them a few times and you realise how good they are . in fact, they're especially brilliant while one is high.

Can't wait to hear Arctic Monkeys Third Album and rub it in you haters faces. How are Kings of Leon closer to Oasis than Arctic Monkeys? They've only been around for the later part of the decade and they aren't even popular in their own country. If anything they are the opposite of Oasis in that they hit it big in another country (England).

They could very well be, considering the response they got from their fans. To me? Not at all. They're a great band, but their music doesn't do the same as Oasis' to me.

I loved the arctic monkeys for a good year and i enjoyed FWN quite a bit but everything just seems kinda plastic. Its not classic by any means. I mean Turner is an amazing lyricist and the band is very very solid but just a majority of their tunes (though very good) just don't seem to hold up.

Not by any stretch of the imagination. Keeso So who is the closest band of their generation? The only ones I can think of are Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, Jet, and possibly Coldplay (if this counts as the present generation). Does anyone else know of any bands I'm missing here who could compete for the spot?

I actually prefer AM's second album to their first.

The Arctic Monkeys have a unique sound and have only been around for about 4 years. I can't think of one band inspired by them yet but they will come in the near future.

Yes they are almost....I made a post like this before and every fucking faggot prick just shot me down....
Yes they are their songs are about life for the working class / middle class their songs are catchy....their original....their drummer is the best around....
One thing though.....their too indie and they dress with that fucked up Russel Brand Skinny Jeans style.....if they created the wall of sound effect on their next record they will be massive....but at the moment they need more...
Their first album was pretty amazing....

They are the closest thing to Oasis, yes.
There is far more music readily available these days though with MP3's and the internet. We have much shorter attention spans nowadays because we are spoilt for choice. Once we get bored of a band we move on to something else, which is what has happened with the Arctic Monkeys to an extent. I don't think there will be another Oasis - the frenzy over Be Here Now for example will never happen again because it will have leaked long before it's release.

Err, I'd hardly say they have a unique sound. Same goes for Oasis, mind. How is their sound not unique? List examples. Have you heard their first album? It's pretty much post-Libertines/Strokes indie rock from Britain. Done well, of course, but it's nothing special. Their second send their sound for a bit of a loop, but it's nothing I haven't heard before.
