I saw them in Wellington last year and it was off putting hearing a huge amount of girls scream out his name ( especially since my name is Alex). Probably the closest thing ive experienced to a teenybopper concert. Musically they were brilliant, Alex combed his hair about 100 times though. AM is their only album that I am a huge fan of and that has been played regularly in my friend circle at parties etc. I had the exact same experience when seeing them live. I was first row and behind me were girls pushing and screaming out "ALEX ALEX OMYGOD HE'S SO HOT I'M GONNA DIE OMYGOD" and I was just standing there like -_____- And constantly combing his hair and lookkng arrogant. And there were some technical issues with the sound of the instruments and he was constantly stopping everyone from playing, looking annoyed, pointing at people and all. I became a bit annoyed myself.

Alex Turner's arrogance is so forced, you can tell he's putting on an act. Liams character also changed over time, he became more chilled but still kept the same character, always had the swag and attitude.
Look at Turners recent speech about rock n roll dying..its too fake.

He's trying some kind of relaxed-cool attitude, almost like a fake Morrissey, and it is the worst thing ever.

He did what any man representing guitar bands would do. He could have said "thanks" and walked back into the night with nobody remembering it and it never being further discussed, but why would he have done that? Instead, he asserted his territory, putting Arctic Monkeys' stamp on the event. People get too hung up on it.

If he wants to say a few words about how rock n roll will never die, good on him, go ahead and say it. But he does it in a way that comes across so incredibly narcissistic...and that fucking "invoice me for the mic if you need to" comment. Who actually says something like that? For reference:

For reference: I still think it's all a fuss over nothing. Compared to some of the rock 'n' roll award acceptances that precede it, Alex's little moment in the spotlight pales into utter insignificance. That's all it was, a moment in the spotlight - something he used to the full. Hell, even Liam had a stinking attitude when accepting awards and I see no threads here criticising that.

but liam is liam..he was always like that Oasis a existed in a time when they were never out of the public eye. In this day and age, that endless exposure no longer happens, so it's up to bands like this to capitalise on a prime-time slot like this by making some form of statement.

I once waited outside in the sun for 4 hours to meet AM before a show here in Cleveland, and even though there was only a handful of us, they still refused. Matt Helders literally held up the hotdog he was eating and awkwardly motioned like, "what do you want me to do? This hot is the most important thing to happen to me."And Alex Turner pretended to be on the phone. Fuck the Arctic Monkeys.

That speech makes me laugh every time I see it. I thought it was quality.
Something different if nothing else. Don't see what the big deal is. Obviously off his head on and just fancied a ramble. People take shit way too seriously.
kalas man ever heard the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover" you can't just judge people by how they look or dress surely?

Since they began appearing on our TV's, we've seen them dressed as farmers, characters from the Wizard of Oz and circus clowns. These suits are tame in comparison.

Well, I really enjoyed their first album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. After that not a single song impressed me. But I still think they are pretty technical musicians.

What did he actually do ? I missed this ...was he so bad ? Or over the top,? There you go buddy I think he comes off as more pissed or on weed, or pissed AND on weed rather than arrogant jerk. I've never got a sense of arrogance from these guys, I think they've let the music do the talking instead, and for me, that's all I ask for. And what I got is very good indeed.

Well it goes The Smiths to The Stone Roses to Oasis to The Libertines (not a fan but won't deny they didn't have a influence) to Arctic Monkeys.
The Monkeys have had a impact, to say they haven't is a load of bollox really even if you don't like them. Two debut number 1s with their first two singles and the fastest selling debut album at that time. Nothing to be sniffed at, 4 number 1 albums followed with their last one selling more then the last few. A ton of awards and big gigs. They are the closet a British band has got to the popularity of Oasis in the U.K.
But I never got the Oasis and Arctic Monkeys thing, both bands sound so different to each other. Plus the Monkey mixed the sound and image up while Oasis were always the same band from day one to the last.
Oasis were the bigger band though and that debut album is still the best thing any british band done since the Stone Roses debut.
Plus Oasis fans taking shots at Arctic Monkeys for been Arrogant, I find very ironic.
