all about taste and opinions. if someone likes the monkeys more than oasis, than you can't teach him to like oasis more ^^ Who likes the monkeys more than oasis? I like them more than any other band since oasis, but more than oasis themselves? No chance!

my guess is that oasis was the last band that had an actual impact on how people behave, how they dress, on peoples political beliefs, how they approach other music etc. the arctic monkeys did have a certain success, sold shit loads of albums for a non-pop-act, but they didn't change an entire generation. tbh no band has since the 90ies and there most probably won't be any band that defines itself through guitar music that will do.
the music business has changed. with the internet and youtube, every fucker who can play three chords on his acoustic feels the urge to throw out his half arsed music. plus with all this casting nonsense and plastic throw-away-chart bullshit, the big players of the industry dictate the taste of an entire, brainless generation of smartphone addicts. oasis was kind of a cinderella-music-story that nowadays appears to be impossible to happen.

I'd say for me the best bands out now are Coldplay, Kasabian, and Arctic Monkeys. I can never really choose who's the best out of the three though; today I'd say Coldplay (I also like how irritating it is to people when I add Coldplay to anything as well )

there's a large number of people who feel Arcade Fire is the best band at the moment, myself included.
who gives a fuck though? these kind of threads never amount to anything or ever accomplish anything....
God bless.

Actually, most don't even know the name of Led Zeppelin or Nirvana. What is the education of children coming to these days?? Glad to see that there are some knowledgeable music fans like yourself here though Perhaps you should be the unofficial ambassador of good music at your school. You know, sneak in some music over the PA system or something. Or give a CD to whoever is DJ'ing your next school dance. hahaha that's a great idea

To be honest...I can't believe they're still around. If it wasn't for them opening for Oasis years ago, I don't think they'd have a leg to stand on. Whoever mentioned Kasabian and Arcade FIre though, I'm right with you.

I could never really get into the Libertines. Not sure why. I've tried many times. I am however a big fan of British Sea Power. They put on a great live show. the classic songs on the Libertines second album are easier to get in to, i.e. Can't Stand Me Now, Music When The Lights Go Out, What Katie Did and What Became of The Likely Lads but i think the first album is overall better. God bless. Love the libertines...i have a few good bootlegs of them and Babyshambles...I like the first album best too.

God bless. I happen to share this opinion as well. Arcade Fire produce great albums and their lives shows are off the charts, especially if you caught them on the way up when they played clubs and churches! I heard James Murphy is producing some or all of their new album. Kick ass! Trivia: James Murphy was once hired to be a writer on Seinfeld.

But i must say you don't strike me as the sharpest tool in the box, nevermind. hahaha your 'Alex Turner' is a ugly hasbeen. you're a neverbeen. stick to this miserable looking dude. and dont fucking look back

AM first album was successful for the same reason oasis were. It was made for us by us. The grave mistake Alex Turner made was go all art school on us n disappear up his own arse deliberating turning his back on his own fan base by over complicating his music. The only "lads" band these days are Kasabian n they're shite!

No and this is nothing to do with the actual music. Oasis were the first band since the Beatles to control the media circus if only for a short time, non oasis fans don't realise how big actually were. The arctic monkeys make decent music, as do kasabian but they don't even get close to oasis. I think we will be waiting along time until we see it again and I am convinced I will have turned into my dad by then and hate it when it does happen.

Not even remotely. Nobody but the hardcore give a fuck about what the Arctic's are up to anymore and Turner never really got the public's attention like the Gallagher's.
Then there's the music which went rapidly downhill a hell of a lot quicker than Oasis's.

The libertines are this generations oasis Libertines suck balls man, seriously. Yesterdays news. Laughable. Im looking at the bigger picture not just the tunes. the libertines change peoples lives, made them believe in something, changed the way people dressed just like oasis did, the monkeys never really had that. Even though they are a fantastic band

In America they made zero impact outside Guy Fawkes walkmen in 2002.

The libertines happened 10 years ago, the fans have grown up they dont dress like that no more. Who still dresses like you did when you were 19/20? Its embarrassing. Not like oasis fans wanting to be liam walking round like a fucking monkey with a parka at 47 years old

In America I don't think music has any impact on people's fashion anymore, at least not with rock n roll. Perhaps hip-hop but I'm not really sure. When I was in High School (1996-2000) people did dress like their musical heroes. Plenty of Nirvana wannabes, Green Day punks, Pearl Jam flannels, Smashing Pumpkins zero t-shirts and Oasis cool kids. Oh yeah, people even dressed like Dave Matthews Band (hemp necklaces, birkenstocks and tie dye shirts). I will never understand the obsession so many people had with DMB.....ever.

the Libertines didn't have much impact in the United States which is why I called them underrated in the 'underrated bands' thread in the 'Rock'n'Roll Star' section to which I was dismissed by another Artic Monkey fan.... and yes, the Libertines are a joke now, at least Pete Doherty is but whenever they need money they'll reform and headline summer festivals.
God bless.

It does in england to a degree. Well i say that but its just kids at 16/17 who listen to the courteeners and miles kane running round calling themselves mods.
