Some of you are missing the point.
Yeah, you give your time and money to Oasis....but that's mainly for your personal gain. You're buying their albums because YOU want to listen to their music. You attend the gigs because YOU like the atmosphere. All that is about YOU, and not Oasis. You're naive to think you're giving something to Oasis by just buying their albums -- that's selfish. Again, you're not doing it for them, you're doing it for your personal pleasure.
This topic is about doing something for them, and only for them....

Think of it this way
Imagine you're a top executive in your firm - perhaps you are - and you've served your company for 20+ years or whatever. Now it's time to move on/retire, whatever
Chances are, you're company is going to do something for you to show their thanks, and give back to you for your dedication and hard work.
Same thing is seen in football with testimonials for players who have served their club for many years etc
So why should it be any different for a band?
Oasis, along with U2 and Rolling Stones are the biggest band in the world today, and have been since 1994.
When they call it a day, it just would be nice for fans the worldover to celebrate what they did and to give thanks for their effort, and dedication
Yes, if the idea is bad, it will come off looking stupid. But if the idea is good, i guarantee you, even Liam would be touched.
Everyone likes to be appreciated.
Again, I'll see this one more time since NO ONE has talked about it yet: If Noel's 40th Birthday deserved a special card from a huge number of Oasis fans, then surely Oasis's career deserves something special for celebration too? ---- And to quickly counter the Noel interviews mentioned here:
Well, he was on the BBC program awhile ago and he said:
"The difference is, I'm not a professional musician. I consider myself to be an ordinary fucking human being, who writes these songs that people relate to. Other than that, I'm no different to you, I'm no different to the people who stood in the field listening to me fucking play those songs. If I wasnt in the band, I would be in the field, because everybody in there looks like me, they dress like me, and I dress like them. I'm just very lucky, I think"

We "give back" to Oasis by buying the records, going to the concerts, and loving their music. That's all you fucking need to do. We "give back" to Oasis by buying the records, going to the concerts, and loving their music. That's all you fucking need to do. yeah, what fuckin else you could possibly do? were keeping their legacy alive we do it because we get something out of it and they do it because they get something out of it. Its a deal that works for both of us.

I lost a hell of a lot of money that time, too, because I didn't go to a gig that I had bought tickets for, paid for flights accomodation etc due to Noel not playing (I wasn't going to waste any more money watching an Oasis tribute band). If you think that they owe you nothing and you owe them nothing then fair enough, if you meet them one day, I hope you dont try and invade their personal space or ask for a photo with them, or anything like that. For me, I DO owe Noel Gallagher more, due to how his music has affected, influenced and motivated me. I guess it's all personal. What the hell do you plan to give him then? A Handjob? ;D lol

Yeah, you got that right. Why would we buy their albums if we didnt like the music (have personal gain)? Just to make noel happy?? at the end of the day everyone makes things for their personal gain. You attend the gigs because YOU like the atmosphere. All that is about YOU, and not Oasis. Well if oasis wouldnt be there i doubt that you would either - isnt that about oasis then? what is the reason you attend the gigs then? Everything in this life is firsthand about you. Like liam said "I come first before any fucker". It has to be about (having some sort of personal gain), other than that there would be no sense doing it at all. You're naive to think you're giving something to Oasis by just buying their albums -- that's selfish. Again, you're not doing it for them, you're doing it for your personal pleasure. they are doing their music for their personal gain. good songs = good feelings = fans = record sales. This topic is about doing something for them, and only for them... The best thing you can do is to become a great famous songwriter and site them as influence, like oasis did with beatles. and what more could you give but respect, supporting their career, albums, tours, and keeping their legacy alive? unless youre being crazy about it.

I did ask Webby Just give yourself up kid Dude, do you know how long it would take me to go from -80 to +5 with one account? You can only give karma once per hour. That would be like 85 hours? You think a college student really has that amount of time? Yes, I did it for awhile lol. I got to like -75 or whatever. And then one day i logged on and it was +5. Either Webby did it, or another mod, or there was some random glitch in the system. But i can promise you, I did not get it all the way to +5....why the fuck would i lie about that? lol

Even though I knew this wasnt going to work, I still stand by my idea.
To counter some points:
1.) Noel Interviews
Most of the old interviews where Noel is talking big headed (more than usual anyway) is because he's coked up. In more serious interviews, you get the sense of what he's really like. Like that quote i just wrote a few posts above (in bold).
Noel and Liam are genuine people, for the most part how they are in interviews is how they are in real life - thats my impression anyway. However, some of it for show to. Noel says some over the top things because he's being witty to wants some press too.
2.) Personal Gain
You missed my point -- again! Yes, we buy albums and go to gigs for our personal pleasure. You're right. Otherwise we wouldn't go. Even though I said supporting Oasis is like supporting a football team - and it is - it's different in this regard: We go for ourselves. People who go to Derby football matches go for the TEAM! Who wants to pay money to see a team lose week in and week out? No one. They go and give their support.
And that's what I'm getting at. As stated in my original post, we don't owe Oasis anything. You're all right, so why are you arguing? That's why im trying to clarify things now. You're all apparantly missing the point.
We gave Oasis our time, money, dedication, love, support etc. We dont even need to say "Oasis we love you", it goes without saying!
But what I'm getting at, is that our personal happiness of buying the albums etc inturn gives back to Oasis. But the sole motive there is OUR happiness.
That's a selifsh motive. Giving back to Oasis become a by product. What I'm talking about is doing something ONLY for Oasis. Not because WE get anything out of it, and not because we feel we HAVE to, but because we WANT to.
3.) What do we do?
Again, you're all right. 99.9% ideas would be stupid, and Noel and Liam - even though they may appreciate the thought, wouldnt really care.
But that's the point of starting this thread now. I don't know what we would do.
The point of this thread was to see how interested people were. If enough people were interested, we have YEARS to figure something out.
4.) Birthday Card
I can't remember who's idea it was to create a special card for Noel's 40th. I know I didn't participate, but that idea inspired this thread. It was a great idea. Noel, if ever talks about it publicly MAY down play it, but I promise you, he most likely liked it and thought it was a nice gesture
5.) What does it mean for YOU?
Nothing, essentially. And that's why I don't understand all this backlash. EVEN if you do participate in whatever idea is though up, your effort will be minimal. Ideally, we're talking about thousands of fans doing something, thus individually there's no effort. It's a group thing. So if it doesnt take up your time, why not? THAT'S WHAT I DONT GET!
6.) Special
If this idea comes into fruition and we pull it off, it's something special. Not only for Oasis but speaks volumes of humanity and us fans too. Oasis fans cover the globe. This would be a worldwide effort of thousands of fans coming together for a common good. Something so rare in this world. And something that Oasis is all about.
As I said before, the special thing about Oasis is that their songs and shows connect with people. Thousands of fans of different races, genders, religions, who might not all get along, are united for 90mins or whatever, singing back songs like Dont Look Back in Anger. United for the love of being together and sharing the moment -- and that's a fact, because the lyrics are nonsensical!
Yes, other bands are like that too. Nothing unique to Oasis. But it's most prevelant with Oasis.
This idea would cement that principle once and for all. Unity. Community.
7.) Respect
I'll say it one last time to get it in your heads: YOU'RE RIGHT, WE DONT OWE OASIS ANYTHING
But also as said in my original post, it's about respect and giving thanks. Truth is, Oasis could have packed it in years ago and lived a wealthy life. Of course they like becoming richer with every album, who wouldn't? But at this stage, money CANT be the motive, because they simply dont need anymore lol
So what is the motive? Love for music - of course. Being loved by the fans that come and see them? - Yes. But also because they feel obiged to keep us happy.
We've shown them we want them around still. So they kept going. I can promise you, if us fans were as fickle as the music critics, and hated them after BHN, Oasis would have split up.
They are still together FOR US.
8.) Feasibility
As I said, this project would reach all around the world. So I expect 1,000 fans at the very lowest to contribute. That's very small if you think about the MILLIONS of worldwide fans(and thus realistic for the low end of the spectrum). But even that low number would be a good representation, and would be fantastic
9.) Conclusion
You take all this and put it together, and well, it would just be nice. Ok, if Noel and Liam really dont like what ever we decide to do, then we truly know they are self centered arrogant pricks. (To a certain extent, of course they are lol). But if done right, it would be fantastic. And I KNOW Noel, at least DEEP DOWN, would appreciate it.
I know this post is wahey too long. And mostly repetitve. But it's all said in the original post. Take the time to fully read it!
And i'll end on this note: I AGREE WITH YOU (for the 500th time) WE DONT OWE OASIS ANYTHING.....but thats not that point!

First off lions, you were one of the few that always respected me on this forum. Well, at least you acted as one of the more mature members I dont get it? I know you disagree, fair play. I accept not everyone is going to agree with me - whether it's this idea, or another thing i write And I dont care you take the piss out me. That's what makes this forum fun, people dont take themselves too seriously. BUT, some threads do have a more serious tilt. I'd rather you create a "Bash Live4evr" Thread and aim such comments in there. -Some people do like this idea -Others hate it -And I'm sure there are a few select people who pretend to hate it bc i'm live4evr and its "cool" to slag live4evr off, or bc the idea is not popular and they fear speaking up. -------------------------------- Can we all get back to a serious debate. If you dont like the idea, say so and why. Likewise, if you like the idea, say so and way. Realistically, even if the majority of people support this, it's probably not going to happen. But it's something interesting to think, and talk about. At the very least, it's a unique topic and gets you away from all the humdrum "exclusive" rumor nonsense"

I had this originally written in, but took it out because it sounded corny. But for young Oasis fans (those who are currently in between 20 and 25, and younger) Oasis have also given us our personalities -- at least to some small varying extent. At least they have for me, so I will speak for myself. When I say I'm like Noel - and I will in a min - I don't mean it in the literal sense, like a TRY and be Noel, or a copy Noel's every move. That's over the top and excessive. What I mean is that I've picked up on both Noel's and Liam's personality through interviews and I admire some aspects, and that admiration has inspired me and taught me. For example, their "I dont give a fuck, I will say anything to anyone" attitude. I agree with it. And I think that's how the world should be. Too many people are to concerned to say what they feel. And that's fake. I don't agree with their violent behavior. And there's def. more respectable ways to speak your mind. But the philosophy holds true. I rather people tell me they hate me, then pretend to be nice to me. I dont give a fuck if people hate me. But if someone is pretending to be nice, but hate you behind your back - thats beyond mean. So now I say how I feel. With parents, teachers, friends, whoever. And frankly - even though people might disagree with what you say - you're more respected for speaking your mind. And I thank Noel for that. So if you got into Oasis when you were just a young kid and watched and listened to everything he said, your personality most likely was influenced by it -- even if it's only a small fraction of a percentage -- the band has had more influence then you realize. That's what I'm getting at. Oasis is more than music. Most will scoff at the above. But if you really think about it, you will find a way too of how Oasis influenced your actual life. -Maybe you were inspired by a song Noel wrote? -Maybe you admired and for the first time saw a true example of overcoming obstacles (Walking off tours, fighting, Bonehead/Guigsy leaving the band in turmoil) -Maybe you, like me, picked up something from their attitudes and beliefs? -Maybe you were inspired by hope and determination of turning what seemed to be a wasted life into success? Maybe, you dont really want to know how your garden grows?

Is it me or this forum is getting weirder and weirder?? ;D I think after 3 years without new material people are just starting to lose it... i'm tending to think the same. this is a little sad, actually. You're right to some extent. This gap left by Oasis does inspire posts like this bc it gives you time to think about other things related to the band. In a few months time, we'll all be creating posts talking about the greatness of Stop the Clocks. And the new album will keep us occupied with it for a good year, especially if they tour. But even you think this idea is stupid, at least it's something different. For fucks sake, I could create yet another "x song is good because...." post. This post makes you stop, think, and appreciate what the boys have done and continue to do -- well, at least it should. It's not working to well lol

|
Post by Beady’s Here Now on Jan 29, 2008 0:29:22 GMT -5
It's one thing to not like this idea because you think the boys wont like it at all, or you think it's not possible or whatever.
But it's another thing to not like it because you think you buying - and therefor giving Oasis money - albums for your own preference, or because you dont think you owe them anything.
What's sad is that the majority are in the latter camp. That's what irritates me. Not the fact you dont like the idea. But the fact that you're so selfish and selfcentered and you think the money you give to acquire a product you want shows respect and thanks
This isn't the best analogy, but it does slightly relate:
It's like if you buy your wife a big flat screen TV for christmas (assuming she has never shown interest in one). Essentially, you bought her a gift, so you fulfilled your obligation as a husband. But in reality, you really bought that gift for yourself.
Almost the exact same principle. You're buying the albums for yourself, the money going to Oasis is a byproduct, but that by product fulfills your obligation as an Oasis fan.
But just like the wife/husband example, even though you played your part, it was still an act of selfishness....

Oasis have also given us our personalities -- at least to some small varying extent. At least they have for me, so I will speak for myself. no they haven't. if you developed your personality around a band, you have issues. THEY ARE A BAND. they make music. we enjoy their music. we don't owe them anything except open ears. so get laid and we won't have to deal with stupid debates over absolutely nothing.
