the smoking ban in public places has gone down very successfully here, with the vast majority of smokers and non-smokers alike unilaterally applauding the idea
smokers hated the idea before it got implemented just over a year ago, non-smokers were very sceptical, but it's worked and everybody got used to it pretty quick
& i like non-smoky atmospheres, stops your clothes stinking like shit in the morning
& i don't smoke, and don't give a fuck if people who do have to go outside for a cigarette

In my opinion you're allowed to smoke outside anywhere but not when you bother someone. Passive smoking kills too.

It's dead on.
You need to separate the issues. IE - getting thrown out of the gig for smoking = sketch b/c it's too harsh - just take the cigs away. Not being allowed to smoke at the gig = good.
Anyway, smoking ban is completely correct. Why? You're hurting others. You're imposing a cost on others. What gives you the right to do this? you don't have this right. You can either pay them or not do it. You should have to compensate them if you do it, or alternatively don't do it.

Isn't it banned completely anywhere outdoors within city limits in Toyko and Osaka? I'm not sure but I heard that somewhere makes sense to me just because of the density of population
I think the rule is that you can smoke in private places but not when you're out and about in the street

I think it's ridiculous. Drinking can be just as bad as smoking, shall we just ban that too? I think you should have the right to smoke wherever you want in pubs - it's a pub for crying out loud!
I understand in restaurants that it might bother people but why do the smokers always have to adapt?

i don't think the "it affects my health if you smoke near me" argument is any good
it's known secondary smoke has a very minimal effect on people's health
but it stinks my clothes out if you smoke near me, & i f*ckin hate that, so go smoke outside, tough shit

A pub should be somehwere where you can enjoy some music, have something to drink and have a damn cigarette if you want to.... And why is everyone going so defensive when we're talking about smoking...
