The following 3 are top 10 of all their songs for me:
I Hope I Think I Know - So good, I don't know who picked the singles for this album but they must have been on more drugs than Noel to not pick this one.
It's Getting Better (Man!!) - no other song by anyone can cheer me up like this one
Stay Young - Should have been lead track and single for Be Here Now for sure!

Honorable mentions to most of the Be Here Now B-sides, for which I'm going to create a thread about because I don't really know much about them (in terms of history, what the band thought of them etc)

I HOPE I THINK I KNOW - One of the few songs on that album that doesn't overstay it's welcome. Fast paced, in-your-face, "break free" type music. The "We've gotta get out of this town" feel of a Bruce Springsteen song with the up tempo vigor of punk. It's fantastic. Liam really stretches his vocal range here too.
AS LONG AS THEY'VE GOT CIGARETTES IN HELL - One of the best songs from that era, period. I know that Noel isn't one to put too much effort into songs (aside from melody and passable lyrics) but he stumbled upon some serious moods on this one. It's such a dark concept, an every-man's prayer. It's pretty much saying "Long as I've got me fags when I die, everything else can piss off" in the most gorgeous way possible. And then the coughing bit at the end!! Icing on the cake. Spend a song glorifying this viewpoint, and then put a little bit of self destructive venom at the end. Dark twist. Unintentional I'm sure, but I love it.
BAG IT UP - Probably my favorite song on that entire album. Noel's best work in the latter half of Oasis was usually sung by himself, but this one is a prime example of "Noel Written (Liam Sung)". Great melody, great riffs, and that whole "freaks rising up through the floor" bit gives me chills every time. Again, once in a while Noel writes some lyrics that seriously compliment his melody.
GUESS GOD THINKS IM ABEL - I am not a big Liam fan as far as songwriting goes. Little James and Songbird have their charms, especially Songbird, but everything else just seems so amateur and forced. I'm Outta Time is honestly more of a group effort than just Liam, so I have a hard time really complimenting him on that one. But this little tune that everyone seems to dismiss, what a great song! It does fall under all the same problems that most of Liam's songs do, but it works here. This is the kind of song I listen to when I'm driving home at 3AM on a cool summer night. Not the most brilliant song in their catalogue, but it deserves more credit than it has.

I have recently fell in love with Where Did It All Go Wrong, what an amazing song. Yeah, I can't understand why it doesn't get more recognition. It's a wonderful, sad tune and probably my 2nd favorite on SOTSOG after Gas Panic.

It's a wonderful, sad tune and probably my 2nd favorite on SOTSOG after Gas Panic. The contrast between the icy snyths, sad guitar solo and epic chorus is fantastic, and all works together well. Tune.

I agree about Where Did It All Go Wrong? Noel's performance on Jools Holland gets me every time. It's one of those songs where the numerous emotions--sadness, regret, melancholy, uncertainty, fear--is palpable and especially relatable the older I get. And the lyrics are extremely poignant.
Bag It Up is another favourite of mine too. If I'm correct, it's never been performed live, which I really don't understand.
Has no one mentioned I'm Outta Time? That's another song that is quite melancholy and beautifully sung by Liam.

Lot's of songs I like get talked about in a negative or novelty light, but these rarely register at all: - Up In The Sky - It's Better People - Step Out - (As Long As They've Got) Cigarettes In Hell

^ I like Up In The Sky. I think it's quite catchy.
The other 3 are songs I don't really care for. Step Out has a good melody, but it's chorus melody is directly lifted from Uptight and that bothers me.

Every true madferit knows this is FUCKIN great ! That performance of Hello is immense. I remember watching that video for the first time many years ago, when I was little more than a casual fan... I got properly, fucking excited when the heavy drums by Alan and then the wah-wahed guitar kick in near the end! Definitely one of the first moments when I truly felt that this band was something special.

Liam's voice is untouchable here, Alan's drums are perfect, and that brotherly "It's Good to be Back" just before the wah-wah part is just incredible. Without a doubt, one of the best Oasis live performance !

Hello very rarely gets mentioned in any thread but it's an excellent song and a great way to open the album, even if it is a bit Glittery.

Nobody ever mentions the weather, to make or break your day! Hello is very underrated. Indeed. I'd rank it behind only Rock 'N' Roll Star and Fuckin' in the Bushes, as far as album openers go. It leads into the rest of album sooo well, and if Acquiesce would've been track two, everything would've been even further on point than it turned out to be on WTSMG.

SHAKERMAKER!
i know....i know it was a single; but i think it is massively ignored. they almost never played it live after 1994.....RARELY if ever. It wasn't on "Stop The Clocks"....nobody ever talks about it. Funny thing about "Shakermaker" but i didn't really care for it back in 1994 when it first came out....but in the last few years i have found myself absolutely LOVING the tune.....it actually has a lot of energy in it; even the original recorded version as well as the early live versions. Super underrated.
Here's the Wembley 2000 version...love it!
