Some people who work end up with less money than people who live off the dole because so much of your wage is taxed so Noels words are amazingly accurate really, even now, 19 years or so after he wrote them...

No doubt ,,I got a friend there ho says the same thing ,,he lives off the dole as you said cause it wasn't worth it to work ,,yet he still was able to come to NYC once a year to hang out ..but then again he always crashed at my place or my mates from London who had a apt in NYC as well so he was sorted for accommodations ,,on the do.e that's a plus!!

As Noel might say...it's like trying to pick your favourite children There are so many good ones. One personal favourite from Go Let It Out: Is it any wonder why princes and kings Are clowns that caper in their sawdust rings Ordinary people that are like you and me We're the keepers of their destiny maybe slightly cheesy for some but I always liked it , from Who Feels Love: Thank you for the sun the one that shines on everyone Who feels love Now there's a million years between my fantasies & fears I feel love and the entire song of Gas Panic is brilliant in my opinion: Cos my family don't seem so familiar And my enemies all know my name And when you hear me tap on yer window Yer better get on yer knees and pray panic is on the way But really I like Standing on the Shoulder of Giants a lot as an album
here's an older one, from Acquiesce: There are many things that I would like to know And there are many places that I wish to go But everything's depending on the way the wind may blow I don't know what it is that makes me feel alive I don't know how to wake the things that sleep inside

The lyrics to D'yer Wanna be a Spaceman? are some of my favourites... I like how it shifts from the world-weary observations in the verses to the more optimistic sentiments in the chorus, about not giving up on your dreams. To me it captures a mood of melancholy introspection similar to Strawberry Fields Forever. An early Oasis classic!
"You got how many bills to pay and how many kids And you forgot about the things that we did The town where we're living has made you a man And all of your dreams are washed away in the sand"

Feel no shame, cos time's no chain
When you find out who you are you know you'll be free
Cos people believe that they're gonna get away for the summer but you and i, we live and die, the world's still spinnin' round we dont know whyyy WHY WHY WHY WHYYYYYY

Too many to choose really. First one to pop into my head though was -
'Day by day there's a man in a suit who's gonna make you pay, for the thoughts that you think and the words they won't let you say'

There must be a lot of other examples of Oasis lyrics that draw from literature. I know Noel got the title of The Importance of Being Idle from one of Sara's books.

What tongueless ghost of sin crept through my curtains? Sailing on a sea of sweat on a stormy night. I think he don't got a name but I can't be certain, And in me he starts to confide
That my family don't seem so familiar, And my enemies all know my name, And if you hear me tap on your window, Better get on yer knees and pray, Panic is on the way.
My pulse pumps out a beat to the ghost dancer. My eyes are dead and my throat's like a black hole, And if there's a god would he give another chancer, An hour to sing for his soul.

Standing On The Shoulder of Giants has some really great lyrics IMO, Roll It Over and Gas Panic! are great examples apart from that ''Strangle my hope and make me pray, to a god I've never seen but who I betray'' - one of my favorites ''I met my maker and made him cry, and on my shoulder he asked me why, his people won't fly through the storm, I said ''Listen up, man, they don't even know you're born'''' ''Take me up to the top of the world, I wanna see my crime day by day there's a man in a suit who's gonna make you pay for the thoughts that you think and the words they won't let you say'' ''There's four and twenty million doors on life's endless corridor'' - don't know why but I love this one ''And what was that you said to me? You told me one day I'd be free and when the fire's burning bright I'm getting better man!'' ''Some might say they don't believe in heaven go and tell it to the man who lives in hell''

Songs I'd vote as having the best lyrics are: Some Might Say Hey Now! Roll It Over Gas Panic! D'Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman? But my favorite set of lyrics would be: But I don't believe in magic / Life is automatic.

As much as I'm apathetic to the song as a whole, the first verse of The Masterplan is class. Very poetic. So are the lyrics for Gas Panic, but only they are backed up with much better instrumentation compared to The Masterplan.
Now that I see them in succession, I can def see Noel has written some stunning lines over the years

"me and my soul we know where we're going , we go where the grass is green the air is clean and the good times are growing" "What tongueless ghost of sin crept through my curtains? Sailing on a sea of sweat on a stormy night" "lost behind a silver screen are all the things we could've been to us" "slip inside the eye of your mind" "strangle my hope and make me pray , to a god i've never seen but who i betray"
and so many others like WDIAGW

I love lyrics in Some Migh Say, Roll With It, Wonderwall, Rockin Chair, but i have few favourites lines:
"I need to be myself, I cant be no one else" "The sink is full of fishes, shes got dirty dishes on the brain" "They're trying hard to put me in my place and that is why I've gotta keep running" and "Cos in the end your laugh means nothing."

Build something, build a better place and call it home Even if it means nothing you'll never ever feel that you're alone.
Sums Oasis up for me. Brilliant
