pistols, ramones, clash, buzzcocks, damned, vibrators, the only ones, mink deville, undertones, stranglers, generation x, early talking heads, the monks, the slits, bow wow wow, flipper or someone else i havent mentioned (i'm sure there are many)...
IMO,
the ramones were the first, the pistols were the face and the clash were the smartest but my favourite punk band has to be the buzzcocks...
their singles compilation-singles going steady-is an amazing collection...
Who do you think was the best punk band ever?

i like ramones,
dont like sex pistol, songs are crap
then green day... i grew up in 90s dude
then blink (their last album is pretty good, not too punk, just the way i like it ;D

the undertones were great fun!
but i have to go with the clash. they were the most breathtaking live band i ever saw and they never let the confinements of punk hold them back from growing in to the greatest rock n roll band on earth.

Well i like a load of Punk bands.... The Sexpistols at the top of my list of course.... The clash at second place..... Billy Idol at third (dont laugh people)... And then i like the Undertones at fourth!!! I like them all equally though!   |

Billy Idol at third (dont laugh people) i try  i havent heard many songs and albums from others than the clash, pistols and the ramones but i'd go with the pistols just because of that one record. what about Die Toten Hosen? lol. |

I started out by mentioning the Buzzcocks as my favourite but if we move away from punks golden era
(76-79) then i'll include
Link Wray (50's-whose big hit Rumble was banned as it was feared that the title would start riots)
The Sonics (Psycho) and The Seeds (Pushing too Hard)(because at the end of the day 60's garage rock lay the foundation for the punk movement)
and of course, the grand dads of hip, the pioneers of punk, the lads who put the A in alternative...
The Velvet Underground.
(the famous quote being that not many people bought their records when they first came out but everyone who did started a band.)
As for the modern stuff, Dookie was cool but I never got that deep into Green Day...
And anyway the lines have blurred so much lately...I mean really, is Sum 41 punk or punkish pop...
And finally, I have a fairly simple formula i use with Billy Idol it goes something like this...
with Gen X = Good
solo= Bad
But that is just my opinion.

Yea Sum41 are punkish pop! And i do like Billy idol as a solo artist as well as in his band!
I like Kiss to but are they a punk band, im not sure?

The Ramones were rubbish, and Green Day and Blink 182 aren't even punk bands.

YOU like buzzcocks! My band supported at the end of May! Pretty good guys got their autographs and got them to add orgasm addict to the setlist as they havnt done it for ages!

the sonics were great!
punk was born in america.
dont ever diss the ramones or sum 41 though.
the ramones were never rubbish and sum 41 are a great little band.
billy idol is like the buzzcocks, pop punk but the songs are great fun.
i listen to music to be uplifted. they both do that.
the sex pistols in 1977 were the beginning and end of a very short lived era.
still the clash for me. garageland and stayfree! timeless band.

I love Adam Ant hes a laugh int he? I hope he gets better too soon! Bless! He certainly is PRINCE CHARMIN, lol had to get that in and he aint really a GOODY TWO SHOES although he does put on a bit of MAKE UP MAKE UP! LOL! the british punks really did start punk rock but they had the ramones first album snugly fitted under their arm when they started that revolution!
i miss the ramones more than any other band on this planet, even the clash.

Poor Adam! Well i have to be on U2s side here, they are better performers, a ledgend band, and know how to give the audience a GREAT time! As for Adam if he still aint got over the scedual thing then he sounds like a spoilt brat! 20 bloody years Adam get over it! Respect to Adam he is a good entertainer, but not as good as U2! |
