lets face it! u2 have proved that they are a great band but this comes back to the snob element of punk rock from the old days.
adam was a small fish who was at the very start of punk rock in britain.
u2 were young kids who were inspired by punk rock in london and formed a band like kids all across the world.
they quickly showed talent that poor adam could'nt match.
how dare they be better than me! i have a viv westwood t-shirt signed by the woman herself!!! i saw the sex pistols walking down the kings road!! i am adam ant- i am a star.
must be crap living in a rubber room.

I'd say The Pistols but "Nevermind The Bollocks" gets borrowing after awhile and "The Great Rock n' Roll Swindle" is semi-unlistenable (as the movie is semi-unwatchable). I'm going with The Clash if only for "London Calling". I'm also huge on The Damned, Elvis Costello and the Attractions (during "This Year's Model" and "Armed Forces"), and Green Day cause they try to keep the original spirit of punk alive.

i'm sorry baron, but sum 41 is one of those reasons why music is horrible these days. they're a horrible band, they can't play, and their songs suck.

The Jam are the best punk band.
I like the Ramones they are quite cool, i wouldnt call them great cause its only 4 chords and everything is the same, but i dunno they sorta sound like the beach boys gone punk. Ramones are cool.
I cant stand much of the sex pistols and find them the most over rated band. They bore me and are actually unberable to listen to.
The Clash are a good band, thats real punk. London Calling is a great album.
What is called punk now a days is just a fuckin joke, thats not punk, that some miserable pre pubecent vagina moaning about how he ugly ass girlfriend left him for some jock. Honestly some of the dumbest shite i have heard. Original punk is cool, and sounds good. This new stuff, load of shit if you ask me.
But yeah The Jam, best punk band ever.

You said it!!!! Whatever happened to all the bands like The Stooges, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Clash, The Damned, The Buzzcocks, The Jam, The Police (circa "Outlandos d' Amour"), The Sex Pistols, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, early Who, The Kinks, The New York Dolls, and The MC5. Hell, I'd take a band similar to PiL at this point!!!!!!!! We need a real punk band. Not these wannabes like Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Yellowcard, and New Found Glory.

That's just it. No one really wants to take that chance of doing something different from the current music scene. Everything wants to go with the flow, at least stateside. I'd say The Libertines but they don't seem to have that genuine punk spark and after reading many an article on them today they're like a bomb just waiting to go off, as if any second, they'll break up.
Hopefully in time, a band will come that will bring something realivent to music that will really change the whole music scene.
