Sting is great. Dunno how you guys can laugh at a man who has written 'Fields of Gold', 'Roxanne', 'Message in a Bottle'.....
Who else has written a classic pop song about an affair between a schoolgirl and a teacher?? ;D
"her friends are, so jealous, you know how bad girls get sometimes it's not so easy, to be the teacher's pet temptation, frustration, so bad it makes him cry wet bus stop, she's waiting... his car is warm and dry...
don't stand, don't stand so close to me"

for me its noel but you could write pages of great songwriters. it also depends what the lyrics mean to you personally. i don't like radiohead's sound but the meaning is there. it also depends whether you want you music tinged with happiness, sadness, irony,a political message etc etc A lot of people go on about the political messages from bands like U2 and Coldplay. but IMO there best songs have been love songs (U2 With or Without You/Coldplay Yellow,Shiver)

Ok, people seem to question a few things regarding the choices so let me explain a few things
The Beatles aren't a choice simply because I thought that cause the voting to be a landslide and I wanted it to be a bit more even.
Sting is on there because of his work with The Police and his earler solo work.
Dylan isn't on there simply because I wanted it to focus more so on English songwriters. My fault for not explaining that.
