fuck Dylan and his over-hyped bullshit... there i said it ;D ok dont get me wrong, he wrote some good songs, some very good songs - but to say he's better than the likes of Lennon and McCartney just baffles me... I'm not saying this is true of anyone here (i dont know you guys) but it amazes me how many people will say "oh yeah Dylan was the best songwriter" yet they dont own any of his albums, they barely know any of his songs, he wouldnt even make their top 50 artists.... but yeah "he was the best songwriter".....

right okay. bob dylan IS a great songwriter. He wasn't the only performer asked to play for the pope because he's shit. the guy is a visionary, his lyrics are powerful and unlike so many bands, they make sense. This isn't true with all of his songs but for a majority his lyrics are ingenious. he has a song for every mood you're in and almost all of them are fucking ace AND he would make my top 50 artists, he'd be easily in the top 10.

bob dylan IS a great songwriter. i know he is. I didnt say he wasn't - in fact, i said "he wrote some very good songs". And even if Subterranean Homesick Blues was the only song he ever wrote - i'd still call him a great songwriter! For those who dont know me - when i said 'fuck dylan' it was tinged with a slight amount of humour... I respect him, i like him - but still dont rate him as highly as many other songwriters. My problem with the whole thing - like i said before, is the people who dont listen to him or even like him much but just jump on the "he's the best songwriter" bandwagon. But i know that doesnt apply to you or badger or to the many genuine Dylan fans Btw - bringing the pope into it?? lol - ok the day i take the pope's taste in music under consideration, is the day i go deaf.... The pope probably listens to wilco....
