ELVIS!!!!!!!  ?? the first "PUPPET" of music. do this elvis, do that elvis. if that kind of thing happens to modern day artist they get shuned by other artists. its not that he invented rock'n'roll is it? wasnt bill haley there first? im sorry he was. and he didnt even write his own songs. again, if artist dont write their own songs in this day and age they are considered untalented.so i dont understand the big "THING" with a man who only got by just because of his looks. yes he had a good voice.but im sorry he wouldnt have got as big as he did if he looked like bill clinton. if u dont like wot ive said,im sorry,i really am. i just get the the elvis thing. |

oh don't get me wrong mate - i agree with most of what you said. i think Elvis is hugely over rated and there are only a handful of his songs i like! and don't apologise for giving your opinion!
my point is that Elvis is the most famous rock n roll star. Your question asked for the biggest star, not the best. i certainly don't think Elvis is the best but i do think he was the biggest.
yeah i agree that he didn't invent rock n roll musically, but i would say that he 'invented' the lifestyle of drink, drugs, women, decadence etc... He was the original rock star. yeah his looks were a big part of that, but that goes for all rock stars - the sex appeal is a huge factor.
i don't know if he wrote his own songs or not? maybe someone can clear that up - i always thought he did? he wrote Heartbreak Hotel i think - which was recently voted as the most influential song of all time.

Mick gets my vote. he probably defined the whole rock star image with all the sex drugs and rock and roll. but maybe elvis was more popular. in terms of musical talent i'd go for hendrix. his guitar is unbeatable.
