Just curious, and I know it isn't Chris Judd either (though $6 million over 5 years in this country is big).

Alex Rodriguez (baseball) was the highest as far as long term went and getting paid actual money. I think Beckhams new contract was pretty hefty but the huge amounts were depandant on merchandise and ticket sales etc, not guranteed money like A-Rod.

are we talking about the total income (contract with a club, tourny earnings and other revenues like sponsoring and advertisement) or only the income from sports?

Again...im going to say boxers are the highest paid
Im pretty sure Lennox Lewis got $36million for his fight with Tyson which lasted 30 mins which therefore gets him over $1m per minute.
Not sure many other sportsman can claim that much

^^^^^^
That's almost ridiculous, but still, how many people can stay for one minute in a boxing ring with Mike Tyson?

^^^^^^ That's almost ridiculous, but still, how many people can stay for one minute in a boxing ring with Mike Tyson? i remember this fight on hbo which was deemed his "comeback." the first punch of the first round and he was knocked out. many, including myself, thought that he did it intentionally and reaped the benefits of an overhyped don king production (aka boxing for thirty seconds).

Yo webby your figures are also based solely on compensation paid in the year, not taking into account earned but deferred until later. Example - Roger Clemens and Alex Rodriguez earned over 20mil each in the year, but half that money is allocated to be paid at a later date long after thier "retirement" from baseball.
these friggin guys are RICH! I shoulda been a baseball player!

I could have had a better October batting average than he has had the past 4 seasons. He was stupid to opt out of the contract, I doubt he will be able to get anywhere near the same amount...but we will see. Scott Boras is a real prick by the way. He dangled Carlos Beltran at the astros for weeks only to send him off to the mets like the plan was all along. Really sucked, we could have had a chance at beating the White Sox in the 05 WS if Beltran was still on the team.
