Courtesy WWE.com:
STAMFORD, Conn., June 25, 2007 – World Wrestling Entertainment was informed today by authorities in Fayetteville County, Ga., that WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and his son were found dead in their home. Authorities are investigating, but no other details are available at this time. Instead of its announced programming for tonight on USA Network, WWE will air a three-hour tribute to Chris Benoit. Chris was beloved among his fellow Superstars, and was a favorite among WWE fans for his unbelievable athleticism and wrestling ability. He always took great pride in his performance, and always showed respect for the business he loved, for his peers and towards his fans. This is a terrible tragedy and an unbearable loss. WWE extends its sincere condolences and prayers to the Benoit family and loved ones in this time of tragedy.

The rumour going around is that his wife killed his son and called him to tell him there was a family emergency (why he cancelled doing that show at short notice) he then got home and killed his wife when she told him.. and then he killed himself. Apparently there was a suicide note too.

Apparently there was a suicide note too. I heard the exact opposite from the press conference. No suicide note, and that the wife had been dead longer than the son. Sounds like Roid Rage to me

Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife, suffocated his 7-year-old son and placed a Bible next to their bodies before hanging himself with the pulley of a weight machine, authorities said Tuesday.

From some research I have done today and in the past 60 wrestlers have died before they were 45 in the past 10 years. I think this industry needs to be regulated somehow.
We were just talking about this last night. We were naming of some of the old school wrestlers that we grew up with as kids. It seemed that more than half of them are dead now.
Shame

You can't attribute all of those deaths to wrestling. Hennig died from an overdose, Yokozuna died from obesity, Eddie Guerrero died from heart failure brought on by previous drug abuse. Owen Hart's death was a complete accident.
I bet if you Wikipedia each and every one of those wrestlers, only about half of those deaths would be linked to the industry; probably tenuously at that.
Shouldn't include the Benoits either. This incident stems purely from personal issues.

And maybe that drug abuse was brought on from the pressures of the culture. Same with the fat mans obesity to stay big. Like I said we were naming off some of the guys we grew up with and the majority died from heart attacks in or b4 their 40's. Steroids are bad news, but if these people want to continue taking them go for it. I have no interest in this industry. But they know it and keep doing it. Godspeed

strange that there was a posting on wilkipedia about his wife's death way before she was found. Did they figure out that part yet? It was just some stupid fan on a wrestling forum who said/speculated that Nancy had died. He posted it on wikipedia and it was purely coincidence that he was correct.

News outlets trying to push the notion that he was upset at being "demoted" to ECW is complete nonsense. He was in line to win the ECW title last sunday night at the pay-per-view. There is nothing to this claim.

If he wasn't who he was, this thread would be all about what an animal he was
Just because he was an athlete i dont see how he will still remain a 'legend'
