Cristiano Ronaldo has been quoted in a Spanish newspaper saying he would leave Manchester United for Real Madrid. According to Marca, the 21-year-old claims he would open talks with presidential candidate Juan Miguel Villar Mir if he wins the election.
"I've told my agent I am prepared to leave. I want to do it in the best way possible and dream of playing for Madrid," he was quoted as saying.
But a United spokeswoman said: "He has a deal until 2010 and is our player."
Villar Mir is a former Spanish finance minister and vice-president of the club.
He is running for the presidency in this Sunday's election, with former world rallying champion Carlos Sainz as his vice-presidential candidate.
Villar Mir faces competition for the presidency from former president Lorenzo Sanz, along with three others.
And as the battle for the 65,000 votes hots up, Sanz claimed on Tuesday he has agreed a deal with Inter Milan owner Massimo Moratti to take Adriano to the Bernabeu if his bid for control is successful.
Villar Mir has previously said he had spoken to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger about taking over as Madrid coach.
And if he has set about trying to lure Portuguese winger Ronaldo it mirrors the way Florentino Perez won the club election in 2000, on the promise of signing Ronaldo's international team-mate Luis Figo from Madrid's bitter rivals Barcelona.
"Other candidates wanted me to sign a document which is not legal," said Ronaldo.
"Villar Mir has promised me he will talk to the club and all we have done is talk through an agent.
"They have explained to me their plans and the next step is they will talk to Manchester United to open negotiations.
"Villar Mir's project is serious and follows correct procedures."
Ronaldo, who is currently in a race to be fit for Portugal's World Cup quarter-final against England on Saturday, joined United from Sporting Lisbon for £12m in August 2003.
He is under contract at Old Trafford until 2010.

all the candidates are announcing new signs. It's exciting! other 4 candidates say Florentino Perez will be the president in the shadow if Villar Mir wins, and accuse him of using people inside the club to get more votes.

Angry Ronaldo plots move to Spain
Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo says he will join Real Madrid or Barcelona after making it clear he wants to leave Old Trafford. The 21-year-old has been criticised in England for his role in the sending off of United team-mate Wayne Rooney when Portugal beat England in the World Cup.
"I should get out of Manchester as the circumstances are not right," he said.
"Nobody stood up for me and my desire is to play in Spain. Will it be Real or Barcelona? It will be one of them."
Ronaldo added: "For some time I haven't had any support from my chief executive (David Gill) or my coach (Sir Alex Ferguson). They should have come out in my defence but no-one did.
"I am calm, I know I have done a good job and I've grown a lot in this World Cup, from a physical point of view and a mental one. In the next few seasons I will be even better."
Ronaldo has fours years left on his United contract and boss Sir Alex Ferguson said last week he expected the player to report for pre-season training.
He said: "There isn't a problem with the boy and I don't expect any problems.
"When people have been involved in a bid to become president at Madrid they have used clubs like ours."
New Real manager Fabio Capello said it was good news that Ronaldo was considering a move to The Bernabeu.
"He is a Manchester United player but everyone wants to come to play here and I think he really wants to and this is good news for me," said Capello.
"We will have to wait and see but at the moment I cannot say anything."
Ronaldo joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon for £12.24m in August 2003.
Former Celtic boss Martin O'Neill said Ferguson was the ideal person to diffuse the Rooney/Ronaldo disagreement.
He told BBC Radio Five Live: " One of the greatest managers of all time should sort that problem out, and I don't think he's had too much difficulty in the past.
"What do you do on the first day of training? I think you would have to lighten the mood.
"There will be a few weeks now after the World Cup is over before Manchester United meet up, and I think there might be a time of reflection for both of them, and I honestly think that they should put it to the side."
