Ruud van Nistelrooy's Manchester United future is in doubt after he drove away from Old Trafford three hours before the final match against Charlton.
A club statement said: "We can confirm Ruud van Nistelrooy has gone home.
"The club will be making no further comment as we are concentrating on today's game."
Vam Nistelrooy, 29, has spent much of the final third of the season on the bench and this latest omission puts his United future in doubt.
The Dutchman had been at Old Trafford on Sunday morning and is understood to have been fully fit and expecting to play in the Premiership finale against the Addicks.
# There was a surprise recall to the substitute's bench for midfielder Paul Scholes, who suffered an eye injury during the draw against Birmingham on 28 December.
Not encouraging signs over his future...

i can't believe whats happened with Ruud this season...
must be a personality clash somewhere - he must have alienated himself or pissed ferguson off. coz why oh why theyd sell a player who guarantees you 30 goals a season is beyond me....
plus he's rumoured to only be valued at between 10-15million.....fucking madness

Sir Alex Ferguson says Ruud van Nistelrooy was left out of the team because of a "number issues" during the week leading up to the Charlton game.
Van Nistelrooy left the ground before the game, but without elaborating on the specifics, Sir Alex said he will be discussing the situation with the club's directors.
"There have been a couple of issues during the week that concerned me in terms of the spirit at the club. On such an important day, I just felt that Ruud should be left out.
"It's straight forward," he added. "We'll be discussing it with the club's directors tomorrow and Tuesday and that's it."
The club had confirmed in a statement before the game: "Ruud van Nistelrooy has gone home and will not play against Charlton."
The Dutchman had been at the ground for the match, but later left the stadium. The club added: "We are not prepared to say anything further as we are concentrating on the game against Charlton."
Louis Saha and 19-year-old striker Giuseppe Rossi start the match up front for the Reds, which United won 4-0.

Ruud is a goner. You don't mess with Ferguson and stay in the team. He didn't get so red in the face through being out in the sun, it's from shouting his bollocks off at his players. So long, Van.

Yeh, gonna be a great game I reckon. Wonder who Keane will turn out for? I'm hoping he'll put the Utd shirt on one last time..
There was talk of Ruud going to A.Madrid in a swap deal plus cash for Torres. Bit unsure about that myself... I'm hoping he'll stay though.

Think he'll play a half for the hoops and a half for united.
i honestly cant see ruud staying mate. once you've crossed ferguson, there is no way back. he doesnt care about reputations. just ask beckham & staam about that.

Apparently he told Ronaldo to go crying to his daddy, who has of course died not long ago. Twat on the pitch, twat off it.
