Dom are you comparing the premier league to our league? la liga de las estrellas, the best league in the world? english football is horrible. and playing against an english team is horrible too. british refs are blind (and UEFA's too). You may thank god than in last few years you've had chelsea playing good football (well...good counterattack), liverpool filling the team with spanish players and Arsenal having Titi and recently Cesc and Reyes. anyway i cant see me watching a whole match of the premier league. i've done it a few times in my life and its clearly insane. And yes, spanish football has lots of divers but at least they play the best football on earth. TWAT ;D

Come on, how can you compare Arsenal's game and Barça's? English teams lock themselves up in the back and just throw the ball away to a fast forward. It might be the most effective style, but it sure is ugly. I mean, do you actually enjoy seeing 10 defenders and Henry waiting for the ball all alone 40 meters away?
The game is about winning, of course, but I don't find it entertaining when you're more worried about defending than scoring.
And I can understand you seeing Villarreal as divers, the thing is that in the spanish league refs don't tolerate as much fisical contact as in the premiership, so La Liga players aren't used to 'legal soft tackles' and fall down easy.

...so spainish players are a bunch of pansies?
And I wouldn't base the premiership on Arsenal's "10 defenders and Henry waiting for the ball all alone 40 meters away" play. That would be quite an ignorant view. (I think there would be quite a few offended Arsenal fans, saying that. Seeing as they're well known for their fast paced, passing game).

They're not pansies, they're just less rough and more classy. So should I base it on Chelsea's 'break that fucker's leg and we'll see if Drogba is fast enough' play? It's another way to play football, but I can't enjoy that.

If classy means being a diver then yes.
But please don't bring Chelsea into what English football is. Its just some grown up playing with his new toy. Ruining the game. And if you wanted a real 'hard man/team' example, I wouldn't pick Chelsea. There are/were much rougher teams.
Personally I'd say base English football on the great play Man Utd and Arsenal can produce, and even Liverpool. Right through to teams such as the new boys like West Ham and Wigan play some great football. You really should look for a premiership classics DVD or video mate, you'll change your view on English football then!

Classy means 'jogo bonito', pretty play, not diving but not that resistant.
I've seen some FA cup legend matches on espn, it's fun, like watching world cup finals or Barça-Madrid matches from 5 years ago. Classic matches are always tense and exciting.
But the way most english teams play TODAY bores me. I've seen ManU and Liverpool do some great plays, or Arsenal scoring many goals in some matches. But that's not a usual thing to see in the Premiership, I still see them abusing defensive play. Wigan are fun to watch, they've got nothing to lose and get the best out of their budget, and West Ham I think are just regular.
I've seen english football matches this season and I think it's too rough. I'll stick to La Liga, thank you very much.

Riquelme is rubbish against english opposition. best player in the world my arse. any game that goes at a pace above 3 miles an hour and he's fucked.... as is Forlan....

The commentator said something like the whole of Argentina thinking Riqueleme is the best player in the world... did I hear right?

Didnt watch the game, well done to Arsenal. I just read the match report on the BBC's site.
Whats this all about? ;D
The second half started in bizarre fashion, when a fan raced on to the pitch and attempted to drape a Barcelona shirt over Thierry Henry before he was bundled away.

I think you're blind! Maybe you were watching some other game, all I saw was 11 Arsenal players... oh, I'm sorry, I meant 11 defenders waiting for someone in yellow to score ;D And Villarreal wasting their chances like crazy! Riquelme is a good player, not the best in the world, but he is very good at his position. Got to give Lehman the credit for stopping the penalty kick though. I think Arsenal didn't deserve the tie, Villarreal should have won, they had a lot of chances and Arsenal did nothing today, even Henry was a defender! And you're saying Villarreal are cheats? Did you see Reyes? And Campbell? Hope you guys don't keep going on about us being divers! Anyway, as I said it's about winning, so CONGRATS TO YOU GUNNERS!!! We'll see you guys in Paris if nothing strange happens tonight! btw, I think the result of that match will decide Henry's future, what do you think? I'm pretty sure he won't stay in London if you guys don't get to play the Champions League next year.

I can't think of 88 minutes of fottbnall I've enjoyed less recently than the first 88 of that game last night. The Arsenal were clearly knackered and couldn't get their game going - Henry in particular looked like he didn't have a run in him. Villareal were the better side last night (but NOT in the Highbury leg, Pellegrini is full of shit and he can fuck right off) but if you don't convert your chances then you don't get through. Too bad and tough shit. I love Jens Lehmann. Justice was served there as well, it was NEVER a penalty (BLATANT diving going on there, Champagne!)
At least we can't play that badly again in the Final. Will we be squaring up to Barca? I have to say I think we will, but then again Milan only need 1 goal....

People.... just rewind 12 months Pool v Chelsea (0-0 & 1-0) in the CL semis, liverpool restricted Chelsea the double league winners to just 3 shots over 180 minutes and Gudjonnsen missed a real sitter in the last minute to take Chelsea through (deja vu or what!), resolute defending is the order of the day in European matches, this has taken Arsene 9.5 years to work out, it aint pretty but it fucking works, we are there with an incredible 10 clean sheets in a row!! and I for one will sacrifice the beautiful game if we win the Chamipions League this year. Semi finals are very rarely anything but nervy ugly affairs. Also you have to have a bit of luck run your way to secure this trophy and it has fallen our way (Man Utd in the final 99! was some luck!). Also this is the first time ever a CL finalist has not lost a single match en-route to the final, if Barca win or draw tonight it is two! So the best two teams will be in the final fact!
