Not sure if we've had one of these polls before but thought would throw it out there.
Personally I have yet to be convinced that we should have an Englishman JUST because he's English. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see an Englishman do it, but only if he were the best man for the job. We don't want to go back to the dark days of giving it to any old bastard (Hoddle--- shudder).

We don't want to go back to the dark days of giving it to any old bastard (Hoddle--- shudder). exactly what did hoddle do wrong for england? what he lost to argentina cause beckham was an idiot thats hoddles fault is it? at least under hoddle we played decent football, topped our world cup qualifying group ahead of italy, what do u want from him? as far as the next england manager goes stuart pearce - has done no better than kevin keegan at man city alan curbishley - been consistantly midtable for too long, they should have made some sort of progress by now big sam - probably the best english manager, but id like to see england play a team like brazil off the park rather than kick them off steve mcclaren - are u kidding me? martin o'neil - maybe, still dont think he plays good football phil scolari - possibly, does he speak english? hiddink - probably the best option, but he did fail with the dutch national team at euro 96, he cheated his way to the semi final with south korea, and ok he got australia to the world cup, but common all he had to do was beat uraguay id probably pick none of them, bring back venables

Didn't Hoddle get the boot coz of those comments he made about disabled people?
I'd like it to be Curbs, he's done a fantastic job at Charlton and deserves a shot at England manager. I think Pearce could do a good job as well, he's another manager thats done brilliantly this season - could really get behind the team and motivate them to, unlike sven.

Fabio Capello. A true great manager. Out of these i would go for Big Phil or Guss Hiddink.

Stuart Pearce - Good motivator, his teams play decent stuff but what has he achieved? As somebody already mentioned he hasn't taken City miles further ahead than they already were under Keegan. A big plus with him is that the media would be pro-England if he was in charge.
Alan Curbishley - He did well to get Charlton out of the 2nd division and stabelise them in the Premiership but shows no ambition to take them to the next level.
Sam Allardyce - He can gain the respect of players who are need of a last chance but can he do it with the biggest stars in football? His club achievements are relatively impressive but so were Graham Taylor's. Long ball football and journeymen don't win World Cups
Steve McClaren - Has the likes of Yakubu and Mendieta and yet still can hope for no more than mid-table. Absolutely no chance.
Martin O'Neil - To direct and physical to be England manager. Graeme Souness won the SPL a few times too.
Phil Scolari - A better candidate than any of the English boys. Has proved he can handle the best players and has a World Cup in the bag already.
Guus Hiddink - Best man for the job. Already got to the semis with Holland and Korea(!), won a European Cup with PSV and plays good football but his teams also work tirelessly.

Didn't Hoddle get the boot coz of those comments he made about disabled people? Yep. Oh yeah, and there was his other famous pronouncement: "Michael Owen is not a natural goalscorer". Seriously, the man was a cretin! It says everything that his most famous result was a 0-0 draw. If more proof were needed: Eileen Drewery.

To be fair, that Argetine tosser did make a meal of it. Any decent player would have kept on their feet when beckham tapped his leg against the other guy.

Yet they blame the portugal defeat on the this. on the hoddle issue he wrote a diary slagging of his players. He was a good manager but not good enough.
