Do you prefer listening to Oasis studio recordings or live performances? Live (professional recording video and audio, not bootlegs). Not even close. Oasis live can’t be beaten. Especially peak Oasis. Just such an outrageous band.  |

I'm not a fan of bootlegs because after a while they're all quite the same, but some songs I used to listen to the live versions more than the album ones (Columbia Tokyo 2002, GLIO on Jools Holland 2000, Gas Panic from Familiar to Millions, Stand By Me live by the pool...)
But I rarely listen to them now, I much prefer listening to albums and demos.

Studio recordings, although I do like listening to live recordings now and again but I much prefer listening to their albums and b.sides.

I used to listen to a few bootlegs back in the day, especially the ones where Noel replaced Liam on vocals. Also watched a lot of their gigs released like maine road or gmex. Acoustic stuff from radio performances.
But other than that, its always studio recordings for me. For any band. Cant beat a studio recording, its the legacy sound. It captures a band, a sound, a moment, forever.
Studio recordings are like the definite take of a song. Something that will be heard in thousands of years, maybe.

It all depends on the era and the song.
Post-2000, studio versions always. Not just because of Liam's voice but the whole vibe of even older songs had changed. Like Supersonic and Bring it on Down post-2000 were never the same or Liam screaming Slide Away angrily like he's looking to get into a fight with someone who insulted his mum doesn't feel right. Some of the newer material was better live like Shock of the Lightning, To Be Where There's Life or even Hung in a Bad Place.
Pre-2000, for the rock songs, always live. For example, you can't beat the live version of songs like Acquiesce, Fade In-Out, Champagne Supernova and others. For songs like Wonderwall, Cast No Shadow, The Masterplan, Go Let It Out, I prefer the studio versions.

GMEX and FTM are probably the only live recordings I've listened to more than once. Liam's live deliveries are too patchy, Noel's are terrible more often than not, and there's at least a small chance I might accidentally listen to IATW.

Bootlegs, and almost exclusively MKII. If there’s a song they didn’t perform in that era, then studio recording.

I listen to them 85% in the live version. I find that there is much more incisiveness and much more rock in the live versions compared to the clean and radio versions recorded in the studio. There may be some exceptions on some songs that don't sound as good live as they do in the studio, but for me the best of Oasis is found in the live performances.

What's interesting in studio version is that at different days, different seasons, different years and different stage in your life, you hear different things.
Also, with gear being more and more precise, you can hear stuff you didn't in the 90s or early 2000s.

Studio recordings if I had to choose. I listen to 94-2000 live bootlegs mostly.

I enjoy both. Studio takes have the perfection and provide the mark to judge the live performances, while live performances have the variation (in the vocalist, arrangement, tempo, etc.) that allows me to listen to the same song over and over again.
However, I really enjoy alternative studio takes and demos, because they have a balance of perfection and variation. They just feel special.

When I first got into Oasis it was through browsing my dads CD collection when I was a kid and listening to them through my Sony walkman with headphones. This was the early 2000's and my dad had gotten a lot of his CD's from some dodgy bootlegger who sold CD's in retail standard cases with black and white covers. But anyway a lot of his Oasis CD's just happened to contain a lot of live versions, I was hooked immediately but I didn't know they were live takes. So that was what I got used to listening to. Most of the Oasis stuff that really got me into them were live takes from 94-97. It wasn't until we got broadband a few years later in like 2006 ish that I got to hear the studio versions and I remember thinking they sounded so slow compared to the versions I was used to and it took me a while to get used to.
I would say nowdays I prefer a lot of the studio versions. But for the longest time when I was younger I only ever used to listen to the live takes of songs because I always felt the studio versions were too slow and lacked the energy of the versions I was used to.

I much prefer having a proper sit down and chucking a bootleg on because I like the variety of how the sets were arranged and how the songs change from gig to gig but sometimes you can't beat the studio versions
