Well, Macron it is. Not really a surprise. Islamophobes bombing Twitter with 'self destructing France' and 'that's what happens when someone like TRUMP isn't elected, everyone else is FAKE NEWS' on my feed

Well, Emmanuel Macron is the new french president. Just to write it makes me feel down. The only consolation this evening is that Marine Le Pen isn't but that was never going to happen anyway.
I'm angry against some people who threatened, were patronizing with people that have a hard life and decided to not vote for this round. Shame on those corrupt politics that are pretty much everywhere on the TV tonight. Macron first speech was beyond ridiculous. Like the guy himself. Marketing product.
But there's a brighter note ... #Durif 2022 !

Drinking another cup of coffee, feeling very eughhhh. Had a hard time getting to sleep this morning, and then went downtown and walked around a couple of miles, and then just came back from a Mexican restaurant that was blasting Girls & Boys by Blur as we walked in, Radiohead while we were in there, and then Song 2 as we walked out. Hmm...

I never used to like that song because I thought his vocal performance on it was poor. True story. Now I know better though. That verse, "I can remember standing by the Wall / And the guns shot above our heads / And we kissed as though nothing could fall", always gets me... This is worth a watch, if you have a spare 15 minutes:

It's like a big weight has fallen off my shoulders. Minimum-security prison is no picnic. I have a client in there right now. He says the trick is: kick someone's ass the first day, or become someone's bitch. Then everything will be all right. God bless.

The people in the apartment across the street, Metaphorically and literally look down on me.
The realisation shatters through me, That I'm the villain in this movie, and I think the only thing that would cast away my insecurities If you wrote something about me the way I write about you incessantly, but I don't live in your mind the way you live in mine, because I'm infinitely more scared of you than you are of me.
Absolutely loving this new Smith Street Band record.

The sun rises in the same place everyday, it would be arrogant to think we could do anything about it, except maybe block it's rays - but who would want to do that anyway?
I rise in a different place everyday, it would be arrogant to try and do anything about it, but if you're here to block my rays, then you better get the fuck out of the way.

The posts in the Gorillaz thread have made me realize that I really need to listen to more newer music (i.e. from the past ten years). I've read so much about how much great music has been released lately, yet despite this, I have stuck to my guns and am still churning my way through a variety of old albums, mainly from the 90's. I think this is partly because I consume music much slower than most people do. From the posts I see on here, I swear that everyone on here goes through five albums a week! I'm lucky if I finish 1 album in two weeks! I guess this is partly a result of wanting to know some albums inside out, song-by-song, until I've practically memorized the tracks. I need to ruminate on all of the sounds I hear so that I can really appreciate them. It doesn't help that I tend to forget songs if I've only heard them once, unless they made a huge impression on me. It usually takes me three of four listens to remember substantial portions of a song. And, though it depends on what album I'm listening to, I can't listen to an album all the way through on first listen. I feel like I'll only have cursory impressions of the songs. And most of the music I listen to requires careful listening anyway. Take, for example, Psychocandy by The Jesus and Mary Chain. I love that album, yet I can't even remember how most of the songs on there sound like off the top of my head. That's because I listened to the whole thing on first listen, and save Just Like Honey and a few others, I never went back to it. Yet I can distinctly remember that I enjoyed the layers of screeching guitar feedback over the lovely melodies. But I can't recall any specific details about most of the songs. If you had listened to Psychocandy like I had for the first time, would you say that you'd "heard" it? I wouldn't. I'd say that you'd only "heard" the album once you'd discovered all of the quirks and details that most would miss. And that requires repeated listening. I really wonder if today's consumerist culture has made it that people only listen to songs/albums/bands only to say that they've heard them rather than to actually pour over the subtleties and engage fully with the sonics. And that's the wrong way to listen to music. That's why I absolutely hate it when I see journalists publish reviews of new albums within hours of their release. You haven't heard the album, you wankers. At least in my book. Wait a week or more so you can relish all of the little bits of the songs. The people who made the albums spent months or years ensuring that their work sounded the best that it possibly could. Surely you can devote a little more time to fully analyze the music. Of course, this approach doesn't work with all music. I doubt you'd find anything of worth by repeatedly revisiting Kasabian's new album, for example. But if the music doesn't reward you with repeated listening, is it really worth even one play? Anyway, I digress. I feel some kind of obligation to explore and discover music made within the last ten years (or this century, for that matter) because it's happening right now. I know this is rooted in some relative of that despicable syndrome called FOMO, but I felt kinda excluded from my friends when they were all excited about the release of DAMN about a month ago, and I, with only a cursory knowledge of To Pimp a Butterfly, couldn't relate as much as I wanted to. And it irritates me more when I know that groups like LCD Soundsystem, Grizzly Bear, Arcade Fire, The xx, Slowdive, and others are releasing albums this year and I can't experience their releases as a fan because I don't know their music as well as I'd like. I can't take part in those events! This year in particular feels like all the bands that I want to get to know better but don't have the time to have conspired together to release music this year and consequently make me feel disconnected from today's music scene. What will I say to my children when they ask me if I listened to The War on Drugs as a kid and look at me incredulously when I tell them that I was only absorbing 90's cult classics when their seminal records came out? There's a certain feeling of being there then, as a fan, when a major album is released, that I don't want to miss. Imagine if I'd missed out on Be Here Now's release because I couldn't stop listening to stuff made twenty years prior! There's that excitement, that anticipation, that I haven't felt since A Moon Shaped Pool that I genuinely miss. Of course, I'm blowing this situation way out of proportion. The music's still gonna be there whether I experience its release or not. But the bottom line is that I want to feel more connected with the music of today. But for now, to prove to you (but mostly to myself) that I don't completely ignore new music, here are my favorite albums of the last ten years. And remember, these are albums that I've "heard" using the definition as explained above!! Radiohead - In Rainbows Radiohead - The King of Limbs Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool Travis - Everything at Once Coldplay - Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly Alvvays - Alvvays It's an absolutely paltry list, I know. But hopefully it'll expand in the coming months!* *when I finally have finished those 90's cult classics.

mystoryisgory ...
If you wanna try some C.U.T.T.I.N.G edge music, these are my favourites of the year so far:
1. Arca (Self-Titled) 2. I See You - The XX 3. A Crow Looked at Me - Mount Eerie 4. DAMN - Kendrick Lamar 5. More Scared of You than You are of Me - The Smith Street Band 6. 50 Song Memoir - The Magnetic Fields
7. You're Not as ___ as You Think - Sorority Noise 8. Pleasure - Feist 9. Prisoner - Ryan Adams 10. All Amerikkkan Badass - Joey Badass
Weirdly, I'm the opposite of you - I love listening to all-new music and current bands, so it takes me a lot longer than most to discover the classics. I only got into Bowie this year, and a lot of bands like The Who and The Jam I haven't really tried. I suppose in a way I'm hoping to witness the rise of something, so I can say "I liked that as soon as it came out", the way my dad does with Definitely Maybe . Will Car Seat Headrest's second album build on their debut and be a big hit? Is Arca this generation's Aphex Twin? Is Kendrick the GOAT? All of these are probably answered by a "no", but I'd like to witness it first hand if one of them isn't...

The NME says the Ice Monkeys might be recording a new LP. Hoopla. Although I'd prefer an Alex Turner solo LP in the style of the Submarine soundtrack please.

I'm always hungry for good music and I'm open for any recommendation because I'm a curious person. I'm not interested in Top 10 charts or record sale and don't bother about reviews. When I find a new band, I always feel like I found a treasure and it's even better if they're not well-known yet. Relax and enjoy the music.
